Diamant and HalfLong are long short pips, i.e. they look and play similar to short pips. Chop blocks aren't that effective. Short longpips are things like leggy, millitall, I've not tried the chinese medium pips

hey julian, if you ever get a chance to try some chinese mid pips (i always call them mid pips to advoid confusion as I use half long) let me know how they are, as even though I love my half-long, it would be nice to try some others one day

That.. is confusing. Also my 799 sounds almost like half-long then, except without the added funk. Are the half-longs still going to provide better serve return, backspin hit ability, good pace without being crazy SP fast, or is it just basically SP with added sink, almost like an exaggerated Spectol?

heh, it is confusing...pips like 799 and pluto I would classify as medium-short; that is, characteristically closer to short pips than long.

Hi Slade,

Try oo7 (OX) Phantom on a blade similar to FW Plus. I found that it does most of the things you like to do with your backhand.

hah! Pluto is a short pip for me! I've got it on my cayman as a bh for leopard.

I'm thinking of going to china in the summer - my coach goes home for the summer and he's thinking of setting up a 2 week camp with some local trainers in beijing and shanghai, so maybe I'll get to try some chinese mid pips

I've just got a sheet of yasaka phantom 007. The pips do seem shorter although i've been discussing it on the forum for a chop blocking/blocking game, using some reversal to set up my forehand attacks.

Have i been misinformed, or is it more of a half long than long pimpled rubber? And if so will that affect the chop block/block in particular.

Thanks

im not sure what the half-long (mid pips) brings to the table, haggisv said it best once, that the mid pips are a "jack of all trades", some can be like a SP with a little bit of LP and vice versa. My mentor told me to pick up "half-long" (ok serously, can we stoping calling mid pips half long because it gets ******** confusing for me being I use a mid pip called half long) because its a great rubber to start with for pips and I would agree, however its not just a beginner pimple, its a very lethal one, i can block well with it, caus the ball to go back with little to no spin and I can produce winners with it, a very nice little jack of all trades!

I agree Skull. I could do a lot with C7. I was just always pushing (just) long with it, so I decided to try something else. With the Palio I don't push long as often, but I have lost some of the benefits of the C7, and gained some others (like more reversal). I'm sticking with the Palio as I think it has lots of potential. I can't drive and smash as well with it as I could C7, and I don't think I control blocks as well either (although its acceptable). I have a sheet of 755-2 to try, but I am leaving it in the packaging for a while cos if I try it and like it, I might stop learning more about the Palio.
