I've been playing LP for about a year now both in OX and sponged versions. My goals have been to use the LP as an offensive tool to introduce speed and spin variations that force return errors and pop-ups, and to use the LP for delivering devastating flat-hit kills when opportunities presents themselves. I've tested with many LPs but have spent the most time playing with Meteor 8512 1.0mm DEF and Bomb Talent OX, both of which do a good job at my intended purpose. The trouble is, now that more and more players at my club have gotten used to my 8512 I'm getting more balls slammed past me than mis-hit or popped up.

Recently I've been playing against a two-sided 563 player and I've never been so confounded on how to return the ball. Despite most of his shots being pretty slow, the subtle variations of spin he's putting on with 563 cause me to dump many into the net, and pop a good many more up, or even completely off the table! I bought a sheet of 563 on 1.8mm soft foam from ZeroPong.com recently and have been experimenting with it, but I'd like to hear from some veteran 563 users on their recommendations for using this rubber.

On a 1.8mm sponge, i would think you'd play it very much like a short pip, so the short pip stroke should work here IMO...

I think tatlwai has used it and also recently conquered the 563 master (Bill U). He's the one to ask.

Correction: My 563 is on 1.5mm foam if it makes any difference.

The traditional short pips stroke, yes. If you're used to grippy short pips, that stroke wouldn't work.

As for stroke variations, I found 563 (sponge or OX, in black) to be grippy enough to put some spin on pushes and flicks. But when blocking, similar to what kagin mentioned in using anti, there's a limit where the spin doesn't go back, it just gets reduced so much.

Thus far in my testing I've found it too reactive to spin, and entirely too fast for my blade. It's quite good, however, at flatish TS drives and slams though I can do about the same thing with Bomb Talent OX with a lot less weight and spin sensitivity. But I will be testing further with 563 on a slower blade that I have arriving in the coming weeks.
