I'm taking my newly-acquired Half Long into battle tomorrow morning at the NATT Berkeley Open (madness, I know!). On my robot tonight I've pretty much worked out how to how to block, roll, swipe, and chop with it but I'm running out of time and would like to know what kind of serves Half Long is good at.

Look at some of the Amelie Solja videos and see what she does with her medium pip serves.

I'm guessing you'll be serving backhand?? You won't get loads of spin from halflong, so I'd practice no spin and back spin serves to different parts of the table. The key is they need to be low - if you serve more than a balls width higher than the net the serve can be attacked. Think about what ball you want back - when I serve short no spin backhand, I'm expecting a weak return so I turn to attack with the forehand from the back hand corner, long no spin to their backhand (just long enough so they doubt where the ball will second bounce on the line or not (in spanish 'poopa')) I'm looking for top spin to my backhand to block short, they then cut to my lp so I can attack, or to my sp again to attack. Forget about winning cheap points but build it into a strategy

Thanks. Yes, I serve backhand with my pips. Thanks for these ideas.
