have used donic twister 1.5mm on f/h only for around 10 years.

tried many other med and short pips but found this rubber had most control.

i use fot flat hitting, counterlooping/driving and blocking against opponents faster balls.

works particularly well against heavy topspins, ball grips enough to control and play shot without over biting and ball flying long of end of table.

dawei c388 was next best tried, very good dip/reverse spin[slightly more than twister] but control v oponents topspin was not comparable.

surprised donic twister is not most popular medium pimple rubber.

Have you ever tried the Gambler Peacekeeper? It was great for blocking and I could hit quite consistently with it, but in OX it didn't have enough juice to get the ball past anybody, and its pace didn't bother other players enough for my taste.

I have read another good review about the twister on another site. I use the Pluto which is a medium pip as well and like it alot. Have you ever tried the Pluto?

i have not tried pluto or other rubber mentioned.

having a rubber that hits consistently even at good pace is not enough to defeat opponents of better technique.

a medium pimple for me anyway must have a significant amount of dip[neutral or even underspin] when hitting with it.

most med pimple rubbers are easy to use, the price you pay for this is ball does not dip[neutral or underspin] to opponent.

they are then able to return quite easily.

using rubbers with very low grip such as a med pimple ox or long pimple i find it very hard to counterloop/drive opponents ball with consistency.the plus side of these rubbers is when you do get ball on table opponent will have more problems. they have to lift ball more thus reducing speed of ball.

donic twister i have found to have a good balance between ease of use and difficulty[dip] for opponent. it is also a fast + very durable rubber.

dawei c388 was one of next best, fast + good reversal.

friendship563 easy to use but to orthodox for opponent.

tried one of new grass rubbers very fast but no reversal.

tried around 50/ 100 different over years. borrowing from friends.

stiga radical a short/med pimple was quite good, little reverse spin again.

what for me gives twister edge over others is ability to control opponents heavy topspin it sort of grips on rubber allowing you to play attacking shot with control while still producing some dip.

I wonder perhaps if it's very blade dependant... some other may be just as good (or better?) on the right choice of blade? Perhaps this is why it's not the world's most popular medium pip?

Mac33 let us know what blade you use the twister on as well as the sponge thickness.
I have bee looking around and there seems to be two different versions. A "LB" and a "40" version. Which one do you use?

i use a butterfly blade called chuan chih yuan.

it is very thin + light. medium/fast. the blade sort of vibrates after contact with ball but still is fast.it is opposite feeling blade to sardius which i find is to be to solid a feeling on ball contact, as well as being too heavy.

i use b/h tango 1.2mm, the lightweight makes it easy to b/h flick. on f/h twister40[ thats the older one]. i try not to push on either side. twister40 is best for counter/attack opponents loop.

used blade for last 6 months or so. It seemed easier to b/h flick as weight was lighter + control better.

costs $125.00 australian,is used by korean top player.

some friends have tried it and do not like the vibrating feeling it has. a few others think its awesome.

the best control/spin blade i have tried by miles.

for smashing not as fast as heavier sardius for looping almost as fast.

Do you know anything about the new Donic Twister LB?

Here are the marketing claims:

TWISTER LB is a newly developed medium to middle long pimple rubber made of a soft natural rubber mixture. The chamfered pimple heads create a lot of spin and rotation in an active game. Due to its fantastic control, it?s ideally suited for returning serves and for passive blocks. With the TWISTER LB the variety of the game increases enormously. All kind of shot variations can be done by this "all-rounder" so that it's the ideal solution for pimple players at all playing levels.
The 1.0 mm sponge is ideal for a defensive and control optimized game.
The 1.5 mm sponge is perfect for a variable all-round game.
The 2.0 mm sponge is ideal for an offensive all-round playing style.

Have you tried both black and red? Any noticeable difference?

Can anyone who has used Donic Twister compare it to some of the pips that are better known here on ooak?

i have not tried new twister LB.

a bit sceptical of the claims of manufacturer of this rubber.

from exp a med/pimple rubber that is easy to use[one that imparts a lot of spin] is usually easy for opponent to return.

and return fast.

compared with most med/pimples i would say twister40 has less grip than average.

it maybe not that good for most med/pip players on b/h. lifting the ball too step will result in ball slipping somewhat, if ball goes on very difficult[flat+fast] for opponent.

i use twister40 on f/h + hit square or a shallow lift so maybe it just suits me.

i let an older player borrow my bat a month ago, the same day he ordered the twister40.heard last week from his friend that he has found quite a few pts.

Sounds very much like the Pluto. So far the Pluto is the med pip that has the least grip of all the SPs and MPs I have tried so far by quite a margin. Will probably try the twister soon to compare.
