theres a new defensive blade from GALAXY, and its huge. Its habdle is a deep brown, and it only comes in straight. all wood, five plies, listed as 80 grams. 6.0mm thick. Hmm, looks interesting. Any word on it? its a cheaper 28 USD compared to the DE-1 and Lq series. I may have to start saving up for one

I'm sure it would be fun to try but you're using a pretty nice blade already. Learn to use what you have. You'll be happy in a year when you double your rating and notice you hardly have spent anything on equipment...I gotta take my own advice also.... |

I mean that its new, so I feel compelled to buy it because its intriguing. But it may be worth it to some other player with more expirience. |

Yeah.I totally understand. What it made of??? I think 80 g is too light for me, but it's probably easily controllable. |

I bought this cheap 980 blade, inspired by forum member Capoblanco. This translated discussion was good and only information available... https://translate.google.fi/translate?s ... edit-text= My first test I played 980 briefly with TG3/dtess ox. The 980 is supposed to be medium slow, but someways it was even faster than my FW+, at least allround+.  It was very stiff, so dwell time was very short. As a blade it reminded most closely the FW+, and it was far away from Defplay or MP. 980 was not plug and play easy, but maybe it has potential. Dtess in the BH was maybe to fast, I overshoot lot of balls. TG3 had very short dwell time, so maybe some other kind of rubber is needed on the FH. Some FH powerloop shots were real bullets, but otherwise control in looping was bad and slow looping nearly impossible. There was much more speed than spin. So mayde DG is needed on the BH and some softer rubber on the FH to tame it down. The frying pan size was unconfortable for me, so I would propably reduce the head size. Chopping from BH had some promise, but FH chop/push had low trajectory that may need adjustment and propably totally different kind of rubber. I played some sets with my EC-14/Vega Pro/Talon ox and some sets with 980. I got twice as many points with EC-14 and controlled looping was walk in the park compared to 980 and spin was much better in all shots. |

I don't think the 980 would be a "new" blade - what I've found on the Yinhe web site leads me to believe all the three digit blades (980, 896, 898, 985, etc.) are legacy designs from the 1980s. The wood's the same, the handles have been redesigned. There are a couple of newer defensive blades - the LQ-1 and LQ-2. Iskandar |

Yes I'm quite sure too, that the 980 has been around for many years, so as iskandar taib, it must have been completely redesigned. I don't understand why they would not give it a new and better name! A lot of modern defenders blades, although called defensive, are actually quite fast. |

Kung Fu blade is just too slow on the FH, so I tried again 980 blade with T05+DG. T05 seems to add dwell for the FH and it's very promising. I had big problems with other FH rubbers. DG on the BH is quite fast, but accurate and dangerous. I continue testing, but I might have to resize the blade, as my wrist become sore after one session, as the long blades momentum was too much in wristy shots - not the weight itself. |

I resized my 980 with sanding paper close to Defplay size by taking 1 cm of the top. Chopping and table play feels very good with DG.  Very controlled and accurate and braking effect seems good. FH with stiff blade seem to need different and often more risky shots than my flexy Defplay. With T05 there is lot of spin and potential for crazy shots, but it's also crazy sensitive to opponents spin. I tried Rakza X, it was controlled and okey, but half of the spin was missing compared to T05.  Serves and fishing were harmless. Actually it felt liky unglued 10 year old Mendo MP, when I returned to TT 2 years ago...  Rakza X don't go well with stiff blade.

Smashing goes great with R7 and propably T05 is not that great in that department. On the other had it might bring back the lost spin with the new ball. It was not bad, but further testing might be needed. Propably I try it during the summer - I will report my findings. |
