I have the R1 penhold version with Original/Tornado Ultra. It's pretty fast, but I have no problems double-bouncing drop shots.

Joola claims that both the MC1 and the Kool models are faster.

I have the R*1, Kool, and MC1. The Kool and MC1 are faster for me.

I haven't tried the 13 mm R*1, but my 10mm Butterfly Layer Speed-R (which Butterfly rated as 9.7 speed, faster than the Primorac Carbon, slower than the Aeolous, Sardius and Schlager Carbon) was both fast and slow. I had better touch over the table and on blocks than with a carbon blade but when I blasted the ball the power was there. It didn't give me extra spring on slow and medium speed shots, like the carbon blades did.

So it may depend on how hard you hit the ball. Similarly I can hit the ball really hard with hard sponge Chinese rubbers, but at low and medium speeds, Japanese and European rubbers feel faster and add more.

Either way, his setup seems ridiculously fast to me. I used Donic Supersonic S40 or Palio CJ8000 with soft sponge to slow my blade down.

I've tried a Kool, MC1 and R*1. Owned the first two, but not the latter.
The Kool and MC1 are definitely faster than the R*1. I also felt that the R*1 is too soft.

I have a feeling that these soft balsa blades tend to stall in long distance shots away from the table. It could just be the feedback feel (and hence making you hit not quite as hard) though.

I have the R*1 with Tangol Ultra 2mm fh and Inferno bh. It's very fast. I got this as an experiment and it didn't really pay - the inferno was too hot to handle against the fastest top spins. However, for hitting, it was great for short pips.

It's the fastest available from Joola. The question is how does it match up to the Butterfly Schlaeger Carbon and some of the insanely fast OFF+ blades made by other companies?

Xi Enting blades are by far the fastest of anything. I've tried all of Butterfly's carbon blades, and even the SC feels like it's only about 90 to 95% of one of the standard Xi Enting ones. Not even close to the top end from XE

hrmmmm

I think that the Joola balsa blades tend to be faster at low speed, but harder carbon stuff tends to have a faster topend.
