Hello,

Are both sides completely identical ?

Can this blade be used to play defense ?

The blade is designed for blocking at the table with frictionless long pips and is pretty fast. Both sides are the same, but it's a Rendler blade, so the forehand side will be a little more flex due to the incisions in the handle.

There are a thick layer (10 or 11mm) and a thin one (2 or 3 mm) : how can both sides be identical ?

Is the forehand the side with the green label ?

Both side are NOT the same. I have one on my bag and used it for a few years. The BH has an extra layer of wood. Not sure what kind but I know its there. Its a better blocking blade than a chopping blade. The size is very thick. But very light. Was a nice blade.

Its been awhile. I haven't pulled it out of my bag in a few years. But if I remember correctly, the green label is on the FH side and that is the faster side. If you look carefully you can see the extra layer of wood on the BH side.

You can chop with anything. But chopping affectivity with that bat is the question you should ask. It is a little fast but workable. IMO, there are better chopping blade out there that aren't as expensive.

That's what I thought but I was not sure at all (above all I didn't get any answer from Dr Neubauer 's firm).

Yeah, you're right. I haven't used it in like 5 years. That and the combo effect have different backhands. All of the other old Neubauer blades were the same on both sides.

GrumpyJoe is correct, that is the same for all Rendler blades.

This evening I played against a very strong topspinner.
I used my blade DrNeubauer Special for the first time with the Butterfly Super Anti (1.5mm) on my forehand, and the Tibhar Vari Spin (1.2mm) on my backhand.
The control on both sides is huge.
I could chop very heavy with my backhand.
Very good result !

Anyone have any more reviews for this blade? The dimensions? I'm currently using the firewall+ and doing wonderfully with it, but the EJ/fun-bug is calling out to try other thick balsa based blades.

I have a firewall+ recently bought on a whim but cannot get on with it. Too fast off the bat at low impact unless using a slow rubber like gewo return on FH then too slow at top end. Perhaps my mistake is to choose rubbers and try to play like a normal wood blade.

What rubber combination and stroke adaption do you use on the firewall+.

I had been using the garaydia zlc/alc/t5000 blades prior, so my touch had gotten accustomed to fast blades. Using badman reloaded/curl ph on the fw+ and tenergy 64fx 1.7 on the forehand. I basically block or chop on the forehand against top spin and always attack against backspin (loops or bh slap). i love the soft feel of that combo and am much more consistent now.

Facing attack-happy players i use the lp blocks more like pushblocker or back off and chop, but take the offensive much more often. Weaker/passive players i adapt an approach closer to liu song.

Years ago my first custom blade was a thick balsa based handmade one from a local blade maker. Spent years looking for something similar as i missed that unique feeling so much. Never forgot the wonderfully soft features. Found it again in the firewall apparently!

I have been playing with the Dr N special blade for a few years now and I have to say it’s the best ever blade for me. I play with tenergy 25 on the backhand and experimented with many long pimples on my forehand, unusual I know. The side with the green logo in the handle is the faster side. This blade is definately not the same on both side. It is a fast blade but control is amazing and you can block whatever comes your way. Good for hitting. The only downside is the price but definately worth it.
