 Can someone give me a recommendation for a defensive blade that is not head heavy with rubbers on it? I am sick of all these defensive blades with big ass head sizes and smallish handles, with weight pushing 100g just for the blade. Even with pips on one side, the total weight is pushing 170g and head heavy, so it feels like 500g. I can swing a 355g tennis racquet just fine, but these tt blades are like redwoods in my hand. I guess I am just a big weakling. Does anyone use a "Non-defensive" blade for chopping, like a slow allround Grubba or Sweden Classic or something? Some feedback would be much appreciated.

Unlike tennis racquets, I can't try before I buy, so I would really like for my next blade to be the right one, or I will be apt to go back to two handed crapola tt.

Get LawOCG to get you a Joo with a cut down head. Easiest blade for chopping that I've ever used, and it doesn't even feel that heavy with two thick inverted rubbers on it.

The Donic blades are very well balanced. They also have a few very light ones, cheap as well.Hallmark,Ulmo-these brand have some really light woods,a bit expensive though. My set up weighs 148gr with two max rubbers

I find that getting a lighter blade just worsens the problem of head-heaviness since then all of the weight is in the rubbers. It's better to get a blade that weighs more overall but has a heavy handle since even though the thing will weigh 10 or so grams more than other blades, it'll feel quicker to move around in your hand because the balance of it is further in.

Your other option is to try a deeper grip. I have a very deep shakehand grip for chopping that leaves almost an inch of the handle exposed and with it I can maneuver the blade so much faster.

The cayman looked nice, until I saw 9mm thickness! I keep coming back to the dr. n barricade. It looks like it has a chunky handle. Has anyone used this one and could let me know if balance is ok with one side regular and one side pips?

I'm can't really think of which would not be top heavy... it usually depends so much of what rubbers are on there, which determines the overall balance. Since most CHinese rubbers are heavier, the balance usually tips towards the head...

I'll second the recomendation for the Joo, but it is a little expensive if you buy it new so you might want to try something else.

Matsu*hita power defence has a big straight handle, sand the blade a bit and don't use chinese inverted.

Mike,

I think I may be able to help you. I have just spent the last month working with a blade maker on some blades for myself. My requirements were a slightly oversize blade with a large heavy handle, soft outer layers and enough flex for my long pips, but still enough power to attack with the forehand. After about 12 prototypes we finally got it right. Anyway, along the way we generated quite a few extra blades some of which might fit your requirements. If you can e-mail me more details on what rubbers you are using, and what blades you have tried thus far I may be able to select a few blades from the pile that might work for you.

Dave

Pm me your address if you wanna try my back up:
DHS Hurricane classic #2 + Homemade Globe 999 GP3 1.8mm + Homemade Globe 979(LP) Edited GP3 1.5 mm.

You'll love playing with thick soft sponge LP on soft blade. You will feel the ability to bite the ball.

Ooh, that sounds like a really nice setup. What sponge are you using on the 979? I've been thinking of getting a new sheet and putting it over some thick and dead sponge.

Dr. N Barricade was my main blade for a while. I can attest that it's verrrrry slow (as advertised). Great with Super Block on the backhand. I'm not a chopper, and I found it too slow for my aggessive shots. It weighs in at an amazing 58 grams and feels solid.

I am settled on Feint Soft 1.3 on the backhand and Joola Drum CWX 2.0 on the forehand. The feint weighs just 24g and the cwx 49g on the defence 2. I would like to keep the total weight at 150g or less. If I need to, I have a wacky idea to put some short pips on the forehand to chop/loop with :). That would reduce the weight, I suppose.

Being a perfectionist EJ really sucks. My tennis and tt games are both in EJ limbo at the moment, and both will shoot up tremendously once I find the grails.
