Hi,

I had a Kungfu blade from Neubauer.

1. The handle is not that soft. It might look like that, but is equal to most other blades.
I'm not sure about the type of wood used for that.

4. The color as shown in the picture is not standard. The standard color is very light, not dark.
5. The blade is very light, I think it is closer to 70 than 80.
7. This blade is not a combi blade. Both sides are equal.

I'm not sure about the other questions, but indeed this blade is for defensive play mostly.
Chopping is very easy with this blade and it is specifically destined for LP players.

Good luck.

I tried KF with my regular rubbers Rakza 7 max and DG ox. Here some comparison with my regular blade Defplay.

Playing with KF was easy and quite similar with Defplay. Speed was not far apart. Throw angle was much lower with KF. Maneuverability was very good with KF, because of it's small head size.

KF seemed to be very well suited for tricky table play with wide angles and drop shots.

Punch blocking FH was much faster with KF. Defplay just blocks the life out of the ball (at least in my hands). LP blocking was quite similar with Defplay. KF is not as bouncy as Defplay.

Some have said that KF lacks speed in the FH. I didn't find any problems with FH power. KF is lighter (especially with rubbers) than Defplay, so there could be stability problems chopping. Otherwise chopping felt controlled.

There seem to be big potential in KF, as LP shots are very flat and they stop opponent from attacking hard. Couple of cm's are important. And if I could really get my short LP pushing and blocking going, it would be effective and fun way to trick opponents... like the guy in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZGNR0mqRrs

Serves and FH pushes were more controlled with KF. Pushes remained low. I have had some FH pushing problems with new ball and DefPlay, there is not much spin and throw is too high.

With Defplay balls bounce high, so it's easy to clear the net, but you are usually forced to defensive mode, because opponent can take the iniative. With KF I could get attacking iniative more often, but I had some finishing problems with my smashing. I don't know, if the problem was in the blade or in the few palying hours with KF.

In training matches I did nearly as well as with my regular blade, which is very positive sign, especially as I over attacked from both sides and didn't defend enough. And I did't lot of easy mistakes by overtrying my BH nad because of low throw.

Compared with FW+ the KF is quite different, as it's much slower and much more controlled. And FW+ is big, so it's clumsy to use near table.

Anyway, KF is fun blade, it made me smiling. :) And I felt that I naturally moved toward hitting and blocking style of play instead of looping and chopping, and it made playing physically easier.

Second training with KF didn't go that well. Spin was lacking in the FH and looping was difficult, lots of mistakes. Maybe R7 is wrong rubber fot the FH. There was no speed or spin in fishing, so brushing tecnique in fishing didn't work. Dwell in many shot were too short compared to Defplay, and that leaded to mistakes. Maybe I continue testing, as the BH table play is fun and attacking easy.

I put Tenergy 05 max on the FH of KF - it seemed to work allright  Control were good and speed ok. In the BH table shots I play lot lot of balls to the net, maybe I am over ambitious.

Re: Cutting of rubber. yes it is legal. i am a national umpire. you can cut the rubber from half way up the rubber if you want, but if the ball hits on the blade below rubber its opponents point. in your case your fingers will be in the way so it wont happen. perfectly fine.

OK, let me see if I have this right...

1) If the ball hits the rubber it's legal.
2) If the ball hits the rubber on the ID strip it's legal.
3) If the ball hits the wood below the rubber it's NOT legal (really? relevant rule?)
4) If the ball hits the back side of a penhold blade (where there's a glue sheet) it's NOT legal. (2.10.01.08)
5) If the ball hits your finger it's legal because it's below your wrist. (2.05.06 and 2.05.07)
6) If the ball hits the EDGE of the blade (and goes in!) it is legal (can someone show me otherwise? )

Is there a rule that says you CANNOT cut off the ID strip of the rubber? Sure, you'd be making things more difficult for yourself (and for match officials) if you do, but is there a rule that says you MUST leave the ID strip on the blade?

Didnt say anything about the id strip. Id strip has to be visible. .on the photo the rubber on the blade is illegal. The cut ones are legal.

I suppose, though, that any "Open" competition would be "international"....

sorry. didnt realise that you were playing in your shed with couple of mates. then no rules.
any type of penants or fixtures local club tournaments are governed by those rules you call international. I in ITTF stands for international so the rules too.
a comp doesnt need to be international for those rules to be applied. obviously policing those rules are at the discretion of the ref or whoever is in charge. so if its in your garage you apply the rules ...

ROFL!! Of course, you're right. But it is strange that they'd put some of these regulations in a separate "International" category while other rules are mundane enough apparently to apply everywhere.

Then again - there's a place I play where we're still playing games to 21 points!

Oh hey.. what's this? I thought the Kung Fu blade was the only one with those funky cutouts next to the handle and the 45 degree grain.

Looks like you won't need edge tape.

Do a web search for "Joola Wing" and you'll get hits from... amazon.com. OK, but sears.com??? tigerdirect.com????????? Looks like Joola stuff isn't so exclusive to table tennis vendors anymore.
