(repost from another forum..)

i have this blade.. my very first blade!.. i had gotten it was part of a premade yasaka racket with 2 oldschool yasaka tornado's on each side. (about 20 years ago!) i wish i knew what was the composition or even the name of the blade! (im not even sure it's yasaka.. all it has is a little sticker)

so if anyone can help, much appreciation would follow!

Nice looking handle Priior. I assume its a 5 ply blade. Bit hard to tell from the wear marks. Looks like the 2nd layers in are pine. Outer layer looks a bit like Hinoki, but would it be used on what you suggest is a cheap bat? I'll guess at the inner layer being Tung. Don't know if any of this is correct, but its the best I can do with my limited knowledge.

i think it's 3 ply.. and i'm not sure if it's cheap or not.. it was 20 years ago.. and it was considered fairly decent then..

Nah.
The inner is a cypress or spruce.
The outer looks like thick bass wood, but I can't be certain as I can't really see the grain well.

The center looks a bit like juniper to me, but it could be cypress/hinoki like Silver said also. It's hard to tell when you can't see it in person, as they only seem to vary in translucence, something cameras don't capture well.

it's super thick... like 8mm exactly.

it has a little gold sticker on the bottom that says yasaka. but the blade itself has no markings whatsoever.

the old tornado sheets were almost "baked on" over the years and i never bothered removing them.. until recently someone at the club offered to strip the rubbers off for me and seal the blade...

so i havent played with it yet.. i have no idea what it's gonna feel like. i was hoping some of the older generation ppl here were familiar with those blades..

i have a feeling it'd a generic blade that companies like yasaka bought and stuck their sticker on it...

8mm

That's almost leopard territory.
