I need to find a slower back up blade compared to my Joo Sae hyuk blade, any suggestions ?

I am thinking about about something like Donic Persson power allround..
Does anybody have experience with this blade for chopping ?

Soren

I would like to find a allround blade which is okay for both chopping and looping.
I have tried Defplay but does not like that it flexes so much as it does.
I will be looping 50 % of the time so looping is very important - but of course chopping is important as well.

Right now I use JSH but find it too fast / hard for controlled chopping.

I consider JSH to be off- close to off, I need a blade around all+ and not too light..

Blade: TT Piet Homemade 6 ply
FH: Spinlord Waran Short Pips
BH: Joola Badman Reloaded 0X
Why not try the LP you play best with now in 0X instead of with sponge on one of your JSH blades? Or if that doesn't work, take the 0X sheet and mount it on a slower sponge than what you use now?

That way your forehand stays the same and your pips chops slow down.

JSH is way too hard for playing with ox pips.
I am going to go the control route and I do a lot of chopping so I need a moderate speed blade.

Blade: Tsp Black Balsa 3.0

Grubba pro is thinner than Defplay and high flex, also not as much spin on chops.I was going to suggest Stiga allround classic which chops very well and has more stiffness for looping but these are usually fairly light,Primorac is maybe an alternative for you but I can`t compare the speed to the Joo

Soren,

I haven't played with any of these blades in question, but I looked at paddlepalace.com chart and your JSH is supposed to be much slower and is supposed to have much more control than any of the allaround blades, including those mentioned, with exception maybe of the Butterfly Defence Pro.

Personally, I like a harder top ply under my 0X pips because I get great reversal, but I guess different people like different things.

A softer blade is the Butterfly Defence II which is made out of willow wood. I played with it, and it chops like a dream, and I was able to loop with it, but my forehand smash wasn't hitting hard enough combined with the soft sponge under my inverted.

Def II could be a good advice, but it's not so common to find around. Not too different from joo about speed and stiffness but it's surely softer.

Btw you could also try more controlled pips on the joo, such as FIII or p1/p4 0.5, or some ox, sinche you don't want to chop on the fh...

I use to play the JSH blade. I moved to the VKM for the exact reason you described. It chops like a dream.

The forehand side is definitely slower and different, but I adjusted.

I have a VKM, but I cannot adjust to the extremely dead and slow forehand.
I will test the following :

Defplay
Appelgren Allplay
Grubba pro

I already have a defplay and quite a few newer rubbers to put on Appelgren and Grubba.
I will see which setup works the best..

Thanks for all your help

At the uni where I work, I have the pleasure of one or more new practice partners among the students each year. One, this year, has been great fun to spar with as he can both defend and attack well. Today, for the first time, I looked at his blade and was shocked that it was a def blade, as his attacks are quite incisive. It is a defplay. He does play fully committed strokes.
