Veneer and carbon fiber/Kevlar layup isn't rocket technology either. Yes, you can buy veneer, to make different thicknesses you can use a surface sander (yes, they're expensive but you don't actually have to OWN one, and if you're a large enough operation they're not THAT expensive - there's maybe 4 or 5 balsa wood suppliers (for the model airplane trade) in the US and each of them has one or more. I know for a fact that Yinhe flitch-cuts their own veneer, I've seen the photos. Carbon fiber, you buy the cloth and the resin. Or use prepreg. Copying a blade is simple, you use the same woods and measure the layers with a micrometer. Research? What sort of research is needed, other than making blades and getting a focus group of players to try them out?
