In some of the Donic Dotec blades, it talks about a "Dotec Fiber' or Dotect mesh as one of the layers in the blade. Does anyone know what these layers are?

I betcha it's some proprietary acronym for something that's available elsewhere - and whatever it means, the "Do" is probably short for "Donic". If they're smart, they'll NEVER reveal what it is. It could literally be anything - linen, basalt, even paper, as long as they can convince people it imparts some sort of improved playing quality to the blade.

It does seem that blade manufacturers will seize on everything and anything that can be glued into a blade, whether or not it really has an effect on the playing qualities, or has a different effect on playing qualities compared to some other material. Some get used long term (carbon), some don't sell all that well (glass fiber, aramid - the former maybe because it's too common and the latter because it's relatively hard to work with), some eventually gain a mystique that may or may not be warranted (zylon), some generate some buzz in the beginning but aren't heard of much subsequently (Tibhar's "titanium", and basalt fibers). Don't think anyone's tried boron fibers yet (thank goodness).

Talking about “putting anything between the woods”,

A bladesmith in Indonesia made special alumunium blade. :)

I do wait for someone to make a special “dampening sponge” blade. Afaik, No rule said that no sponge allowed between the woods. :)

Edited upon reconfirmation, sorry
And, Dawei used to got it further, they used to put “air” / “cavity” between woods, on the Dawei Genote X, but when I looks at the new photos, ooks like the cavities are gone.
