Among the many blades in the new 2016 catalog is this:

There's always people here looking for "two speed" blades, this seems to be one of them.

I wonder what "first speed" and "second speed" mean (in the ratings). It's not the different speeds of the two faces, all Sanwei blades in the catalog have these ratings.

Sanwei are the mad scientists of the TT equipment world. Some crazy stuff in there now.

New designs of their pistol grip blades. And they've even made a mad variant of Target rubber which fits the pistol shape!

New Target Europe 40+ and Target Europe FX 40+ rubbers too.

Just noticed something. The J7 7 ply limba (I have one), the J9 and J11 blades are no longer in the catalog. Still available from Eacheng, though.

Ah.. how to interpret those ratings tiles. In particular, "1st speed" and "2nd speed".

This kind of thing reminds me of 729's ratings for Speed and Forward.

I've always thought of it as a sort of arc/spin mash-up. I think you can take 1st Speed as general bounciness, basic speed, that kind of thing. 2nd speed is how fast the ball is off the first bounce, and a high value could be because topspin has carried well, or the arc was low enough to provide a more direct path to the table so less spin dissipates. They have some blades with a higher 2nd speed than 1st speed, which says something I suppose.

It's all marketing nonsense though.

Yeah, table tennis is replete with this sort of thing.. And it's not just the Chinese - a quick tour of Stiga's website will reveal more of it.

Here's something interesting. Compare their 2015 catalog:

http://www.sanweisport.com/english/?page_id=53

to their 2016 catalog:

http://www.sanweisport.com/english/?page_id=51

See how much has changed in a year! Just the pistol grip blades alone, for instance. In 2015 there were three types of grip - the "index finger type", the "middle finger type" (this is what's left on Eacheng, apparently - and only left hand versions!) and the "overgrip type". In 2016, there's only the "index finger type", and there are four of them.

There's a blade in the 2015 catalog that had me laughing pretty hard - it's called "White Superman". Apparently bleached white ash. If it were cheap enough I'd actually buy one just for the heck of it, but I've never seen it for sale anywhere (if I'd had, I'd remember something as funny as that). AND it's not in the 2016 catalog, as far as I remember.

Image

And very interesting - my J7 7 ply limba blade is in neither catalog. Must've been dropped before 2015. One wonders if the "Bulldozer" will make it to 2018 (when the next catalog comes out).

Came across this, by the way:

http://chinabat.en.forbuyers.com/about

Apparently "Chinabat" is Sanwei on Alibaba and other similar websites. Has a long explanation about "soft carbon". Claims they invented it. Oh come on, it's just carbon veil (or tissue), this stuff's been around for YEARS, model plane builders have been using it for a couple decades at least - you can buy it from cstsales.com. I even built blades using it 18 years ago (and I'd suggest it to the other blade makers here who are interested in trying different materials - it's probably not nearly as hard and "ringy" as the usual 6K carbon cloth you find).

Really?? So the second one is a counterfeit?? Counterfeiting $150 Butterfly blades is one thing, why would anyone want to counterfeit a $20 blade?

T-9 pro is a two-face (different color) blade, and it costs ~60 usd :D

Ah I see what you're saying - the Sanwei is a clone of the Yinhe. Makes sense. I thought you'd found a counterfeit Yinhe.

I finally purchased the Sanwei two face blade. It is definitely NOT a clone of the Yinhe T-9 Balsa Pro whatsoever. The two face has Hinoki and Ayous facing the so called defensive side. The balsa on the T-9 Pro is much thicker. The T-9 Offensive side is labeled as Offensive( but plays like Off- to me) and the Two face plays as fast as my TSP 8.5 Balsa blade that is rated Offensive +. The two face actually feels a tad faster with Joola Express Ultra Max SP. The T-9 Defensive side is fast with OX long pips and does not have good control for me. The Two face Defensive side with Giant Dragon Talon OX Red is even faster( which is great for my attacking style of play) on the Two face. It plays like the low side of Offensive -. The control on the LP side of the Two face is much better than the T-9. The two face is the first "combination" blade I like. I may use it in the upcoming USA Senior Olympics this June in Birmingham, AL.

gdogg1,

Where did you find the two face?
All I can find on eBay is XVT's two face.
