Hi guys,

I've been offered the Butterfly Defence IV by my club at a really low price today and I've never used it before. Can anyone tell me what its like in terms of stiffness and hardness? Is it slow? Controlled? How does it compare to JSH?

Thanks guys!

It's very slow and oversized. Great control. Excellent for classical defence. Very nicely made. A classic.

Sorry I misread the title. I've not used the defence iv. From my discussions with one of the teesports people I think it's smaller and faster than the defence alpha (which I thought you meant). I'd expect iv and iii to be pretty similar.

It is the successor of BTY Defence III which is the successor of BTY Defence II. Concept, wood layers, etc. for all three blades is more or less the same. I've got a Defence II and I think it is even faster then JSH, stiffer, but softer wood plies.

Defence Alpha is different, bigger size, slower, etc...

Too bad, after Defence X, Defence Alpha have no successors. :(

Is that mean you're saying defense x is the successor of defence alpha?

More like, I believe Defence X is the successor of Defence Alpha, 3 ply willow GIANT blade at almost 17 cm long. :)

The longest Butterfly currently is 16.6 cm. :)

Butterfly never officially said it though, afaik. :)

I did not check the core yet, but from my experience borrowing it from a friend, the play feel is somewhat similar. :)

Had a chance to bounce ball on the DX at the store yesterday. Felt much different than DA from my recollection.

well, the sad news is,
def alpha feel is off the chart, and,

I have yet to find blade with closer feel to def alpha than def x
