I think he sounds Vietnamese (the way he says "looping" is a giveaway). Big Vietnamese community where I live and at my club.

This guy's view of how serving is supposedly taught in Europe based on one video of a guy coaching complete beginners is a a caricature as he then goes on to compare it to the way ZJK serves.

Pehaps the Schlager serving videos are not available in Vietnam /s

Or he never watched the match where Fegerl served ZJK off the table?

That said, the concepts are true. They are just not strictly Chinese! I had an American coach tell me those same things years ago.

It's that Vietnamese guy again. What do you think of his advice here?

The video's in two parts - in the first he replies to comments (including the ubiquitous "What rubber should I buy" queries) and the second part talks about the "Chinese style" of looping.

Summarized:

1) The "closing elbow as fast as you can" style of loop that you see on a lot of training videos is "old school".

2) The "Chinese Way" of looping involves rotating at the hip with a relaxed arm, the elbow doesn't fold through the stroke. Also he advocates taking the shot lower (does this mean waiting for the ball to drop? I don't see Chinese players dropping back, they usually hit the ball pretty early). Also, he doesn't say this, but these Chinese "loops" seem to be taken with a pretty open racket.

I'm wondering if any of this is applicable to people playing around the 1300-1400 level, or whether you have to be around 2000. He also gives some advice on CHOPPING early in the video - he says to chop later rather than sooner, to let the ball drop.

At least the Photoshop job is better here...
