Blade: Tsp Black Balsa 3.0

This season I moved from Donic Defplay to TSP Black Balsa 3.0 ,I like the extra control with the ox lp and better acceleration and spin when looping and driving, also the low weight, however the red ox lp is too dark and although no one has complained it`s probably a matter of time before someone does.I will probably spray a thin layer of white on the ox side and wondered has anyone done this and what type of paint to use?(I may look for an extra opaque white if such a thing exists!)

I have used gloss red but I think rubbers don't stick as well as they should even after light sanding. White is probably unnecessarily bright.

Next time I might search woodworking sites for ways to lighten wood short of a paint layer. Some white tinted polyurethane (which many people put on their blades anyway) might lighten it just enough. (If it can really make it white then I wouldn't actually use white but something a little darker.)

That's all I have to say.

Hmmm.. Maybe whiteout? Otherwise try to find a matte white paint rather than a glossy one (maybe indoor latex paint, thinned down some). Does anyone make white glue sheets?

I think you can buy semi-opague white glue sheets. Would fix the issue and not raise a gluing to paint issue.

Those have been mentioned here many times over the years but one source no longer exists and another doesn't seem to offer them anymore.

This would be a good place for someone who knows to tell us, as they probably do exist!

Being mostly(?) latex, that sounds like an appropriate material, but each gluing job might pull it up.
It would be neat if the thinning agent could be latex glue. Then you could have a bottle of tinted glue for this purpose.

Googling "homemade latex paint" might lead to ideas, or "latex face paint" might lead straight to a useable product.

Probably nobody cares but according to ITTF technical bulletins, you have to be able to see or feel the grain on the wood or the blade is illegal. That may impact your choice of paint.

I recall someone posting a picture of a blade (forget who made it but I'm pretty sure it was one of the three big Japanese companies) that had carbon fiber cloth on the surface. I suppose that's not legal any more then?

Thanks for replies, the matt as opposed to gloss idea is probably what I'll do,may even use undercoat
Not sure what TSP' were thinking of, black surface on a def blade is not good
If you were wondering I was using black ox when I got the blade but found that the best fit on fh was t05 not t05fx and only had this in black hence the need for red pips

There is one other thing you could do. And that is get some contact (the stuff they cover books with). Its sticky enough that it should hold to the blade like a glue sheet and then you could glue pips to it. Just a suggestion if you want an alternative to paint, which is a much more permanent solution.

This is what caused the Kreanga Carbon to get banned.

Too bad. Nice blade. I still have one somewhere.

Hmm. Looks painted.

Image

Can't see why Butterfly couldn't just reintroduce it again without the paint.

That was a BBC.. Blade By Charlie.

Same problem as the Kreanga blade. Illegal.
