Okay so I'm new to the table tennis scene. I hear a lot of people mention that it's a good idea to "seal" a new blade to help protect it. Is "sealing" the same as lacquering? I noticed that tabletennis11 and Dandoy offer free lacquering when buying a blade. Is this the same as sealing and will it help prevent the wood from getting damaged when the rubber/sponge is peeled off? Do you guys know what those stores are lacquering with and if it's a good choice for lacquering/sealing?

Thanks!

Also.... Does sealing the blade affect the performance or the way that the ball reacts?

The blade will be slightly harder and stiffer, so it should he slightly faster

Hi Brian, yes its the same thing and I do it with all my blades. It MIGHT affect the performance but not to any degree that you will notice. Until you are at the level where micro performance is more important than ruining blades, then you should get it done.

In our case lacquering and sealing is the same. We use lacquer Donic Formula First - http://www.tabletennis11.com/other_eng/donic-lacquer-formula-100g.
