Ok. If your like me; it's tough plunking down a pretty penny for anything.
Especially long pip blades with few reviews and I do not a lot of people with them in their signatures.

I guess the point of this is, are they worth it? Do you have one? Your thoughts? Mini reviews?

I'm talking about anything over 100 or 150 bucks, s&t zeus, Nittaku goriki, some Nexy blades, some Dr. Neubauer, OSP immune OX (this one has had me intrigued for a long time), etc. Of course there are the Re-impact blades (but this site seems to have a lot of reviews, users, and knowledge of those).

I wouldn't mind investing if I knew what I was going to get. In other words, if they are as great as they claim, how come more people don't use them? Are they not worth it, or are there more people like me in sure of spending any money on an unknown?

Caveat: Entirely made up numbers, but proportions seem reasonable.

Number of table tennis players in the world: 1,000,000
Number who buy serious equipment: 100,000
Number who use Long Pimples: 10,000
80% of which will buy blades of a statistically mean price: 8,000
Possible sales of expensive long pips blades: 2,000
10% of whom waste their lives on internet forums: 200
10% of whom use this forum: 20
Number who have already bought these blades, and talk about them on this forum: 20

Yet, there is LOTS of discussion on this very subject. Just do a search for "JSH" and "XWC" and dso forth...

Lordcope, I think you missed the last stat, should be about 2. :)
But you can't blame a guy for trying to coax a conversation out.

Iskandar, sorry, I should have stipulated blocking blades. I've changed the subject name. The JSH and CWX were built for choppers. Though I think there is a member on here that uses a cwx for blocking. And both are under $100 (if barely).
There are lots of great talk about chopping blades, in fact that is why I figured I'd start this thread.

What's that LKT Toxic blade used for? (It is cheap, but isn't it a blocking blade?)

Toxic 5 for blocking. Toxic 3 for chopping. ;)

I guess the thing with expensive blades tailored for blocking with LP, is that they are made to be pretty specific to a certain playingstyle. Also, many of the Dr. Neubauer and Re-Impact blades are combination blades, which can be a bit weird to consider buying when many people have only really used regular constructed blades.

Oh, definitely specialty purpose. I know a lot don't use them. Part of the post was to see if anyone had them and thought it was worth it. And to see if there were any little reviews.

It's just, I've seen a lot of talk of choppers blades on here, and even thinking about Def-attack's blog, or the various frictionless anti reviews, there is a lot of talk about specific blades for that style, often pretty expensive too. Seems like, outside of a few years ago with the Re-Impact blades, most LP blocking talk is about the rubber, not as much mention of blades.

Are my fellow lp blockers not concerned with expensive lp blocking blades? Have some found they aren't even worth the money? Or do most have their blade of choice and just never tried the other cause they are cheap like me?

So are the DHS Dipper rubbers and blades for blocking? (I've always wondered what they were for.. .)

I was a lp chopper for many years, but not a blocker. i thought some people used the re-impact blades for blocking or some dr neubauer blades. I do have a couple of blocking setup s for lp w a sanwei 1 ply hinoki blade.

This has GOT to be a blocking blade, right?

Weird blade. That inner ply must be in two pieces, with the diagonal grain meeting in a "V" in the middle.

I still have one "expensive one"- Re-impact Taichi. Nothing really special. Played with it a few times and didn't like it much. To me the best blocking blades I tried are Andro Fibercomp (balsa with fiberglass), Dr. N's Kung Fu (strange thing which is extremely thin and has a phenomenal feedback) and Nittaku Shake Defense which is probably the safest choice if you're a blocker...

The KungFu has a thin wooden edge strip running all around the blade so the ply construction is normally hidden.
But, I converted mine to penholder so cut off the end of the handle and replaced the handle slabs with mesquite wood. Don't like balsa as a handle material, much too dent-able, fragile, gets grungy, and won't last - other than that it's okay  .

The main part of the blade has 4 wood layers (two thick inner and two thin outer) alternating with 3 thin black layers (one centered) in the blade, probably veil carbon, giving it a stiffness and lack of vibration not usually found in a thin blade. Did not cut away on the wings portion,(wings also said to be there to stop vibration) so can't say about inner construction of the wing areas.

Kung Fu feels like you're playing with your hand. Really nice! However, it's lacking in the power department. I'm using Fibercomp now and it's just right.
