my dad has just cut my second grubba pro blade down today. i chop a lot with the anti and play backhand drives.the cut down also blocks very well.I got my 3 grubba pros cheap so i imagine that if you cut one of yours down it may lose value if you sell it on.

But for actual changes to its playing ability -- does cutting it down change much? Less flex? A bit faster?

Obviously the VKM blades are that size for a reason and i have read that a bigger head is better for chopping.
However a lot of people customize.I didnt like the flex on the forehand of the pro and found it a bit cumbersome when using the f/h to attack over the table.i was using a normal grubba all plus before this and liked the f/h.
I actually think that it now plays better and has not really altered the playing ability.
It may pay you to experiment on a defplay first.A member here has cut his defplay down-i think its dazzler.
So far i have cut down 2 grubba pros and may cut the 3rd down.i will let you know tonight how the second cut down plays.

Tnx for the review.

I was thinking that a VKMS could be a possible replacement / improvement for my Dr Neubauer High Tech / Firewall +. Could anyone compare the VKMS to the latter two in regard to speed ? I'm not really looking for a faster blade.

You should get a lot more control and dwell/feel but the VKMS will be quit a bit heavier than the DrN blades.

As regards cutting down a defensive blade such as the VKMS a big difference if using thick sponge inverted or pips out rubbers will be the reduced weight.

One of the reasons I started reducing blade sizes was tennis elbow and catching the edge of the table sometimes,no tennis elbow now but I think standard head size promotes a faster swing particularly with f/h attack which has always been the strongest part of my game. The Black Balsa 3.0 t05/388d set up that I`m currently using weighs in at 120g :topspin: ,it sounds too light but dosn`t feel it in matchplay and it`s done really well for me this season.Sorry to move away from topic
