Got a few old Jpens in another thrift shop.


YSP Mr. Hero, BTY Black 900 and another Unknown BTY Jpen
I put a furniture pad on the BTY Jpen because the previous owner did a pretty bad sand job.
Heck he just cropped a whole piece of wood there. Didn't sand at all. Compare it to the left side I sanded myself.

Notice the BTY Black blade has a label on it. Probably the previous owner's name.

The 'YSP' one I believe became TSP.

BTY Black 900. 5-ply Jpen. This has hands down the most uncomfortable handle I've ever held.


Unknown BTY Blade. 1-ply. If someone can read what it says on the sticker please post here.
As you can see it came with a sheet of (dead) Sriver.
This is the one I'll be testing in the future since I've never tried a 1 ply before.
Will be slapping an H3 on this thing. Let's see how stiff 1-ply + Hard rubber plays.

These look like pre-mades bats, which means you probably won't be able to identify the blades, as they are usually not sold separately.

The last one's not a premade. Looks like he's worked on it, too - he likes to put that black stuff where the forefinger goes. If it's a one ply it's probably hinoki and relatively expensive (even back then).

The other two look like higher end pre-mades, they actually have cork on the back. Cheaper ones had just bare wood. And these are post-2-color rule (the one with the blue back must be from that short period of time before they specified black/red). So these aren't really that old. Can't say I've ever seen Butterfly "Black" rubber before - most of the cheap Japanese penhold bats in the old days had Biriba.
