Hi guys,

I was recently checking out my local Butterfly supplier in the UK and it said on the website that the Defence IV was discontinued.

I called them up and they said yes it has been. They didn't know why and there was a 'successor' of that blade in this season's range.

Does anyone know why it's been discontinued? I tried a friend's out a few times and I quite like it so I'd liked to have got one.

The Hadraw Shield seems to be the only defensive blade now in the Butterfly range that is a slower all wood blade.

It's not long ago since they discontinued Defence II, III and X, so I'm not surprised they discontinuing another one.

My guess is defensive blades are not big sellers for Butterfly, but they always make lot of sales from new products. So it's much more profitable to just make new models instead of continuing to make the old ones.

That sounds plausible, no doubt another defence series blade will be out next season again. They are pretty good blades.

How does the Hadraw shield compare to it? Is it similar and maybe that's why they kept that one?

But,if You ask me,

My grief is that 17 cm * 16 cm blades became even rarer.
