Hi

I was thinking of giving short pip chopping modern defense a try.
Any suggestions on blades? I have ordered spectol 1.5mm
I was looking at joo or defplay but was wondering if they are too fast?
would a balsa blade work better?

thanks

There are apparently a number of short pips choppers on the world stage (can't remember names right now), what do they use, and how would it differ from long pips chopping? Would the blades necessarily be different?

Wu Yang (defplay)
Han Ying (victas koji)
Yuto M. (victas koji offensive)
Wei Wang
Li Qian (hadraw shield)
Hou Yingchao
Honoka Hashimoto (nittaku gorki)

There's actually a good number of short pip choppers. And strangely enough, basically all of the top female choppers are using short pips!

The blades don't seem to differ much, if at all, from long pip defenders. Although I've yet to see any short pip choppers using a joo blade, and many LP players use that.

I ordered a hallmark strategy, defplay and tsp balsa 3.5 today going all out haha.
The blades I have are too fast for chopping.

Are you trying out short pips chopping on back hand or fhand? What short pips are you going to try out on these blades?
Will be interesting to see how you find the light TSP balsa 3.5 Vs the heavier all wood Def blades.

I am trying to find a blade rubber combination for by bhand that gives controlled chops and blocks close to the table but still good for hitting. I am finding Most of the newer faster short lips are just too bouncy for semi defensive bhand play i.e more suited to outright attack on fhand.

Nearest thing to ideal I have found over last two weeks swapping blades and rubbers is Keiler 1.2 on an old TSP standard all wood blade, but blade is perhaps a touch too hard for 1.2mm.
