Blade: Nittaku ANV WN

BH: Yinhe Pluto 1,0 black
Bought a 7ply blade with I think Hinoki outerplys.
It´s relatively heavy, 110g
The speedrating is off+
Handle looks similar like Donic-blades, but this is without lens.
Any idea?

It looks like an old Stiga or Butterfly premade to me. I've seen one very similar like that, but can't be sure it's the same.

AN handle. I don't think they'd use hinoki in premades.... 110 grams isn't just heavy, it's stupendously heavy.

How do you know it's OFF+? By playing with it, or from what the previous owner (who presumably played with it) told you?

It may be a very, very old blade, maybe it is one out of the times of Hans Alser - back then blades were a tad heavier than today and it may have added some weight over the years. I was thinking of a Banda blade, maybe designed for a player like Ulf Tickan Carlsson.

I think the blade is off+ caused of the bounce when you tick off a ball. The frequenzy is very high.
The blade is about 7mm think.
Its a little oversized. Length 16cm width 15,5cm.
For a premade there is to good craftmanship.
When you look at the handle there is a small redish stripe. I think a red stripe in the handle was in the old Donic-Blades.
Stigas didn´t have this grey handle.

Looks a bit like the Stiga AN blades I have seen ("Tickan" and "2000"). Never saw one without a lens, but my lack of experience needn't mean much.

Sanding the heavy coat of laquer off the handle (which I did on my old Stiga) gives a surface just like what your pictures show. The blades I recall from that age were only Stiga, Banda and Butterfly. The clearly defined angled surface at the handle end reminds me more of Stiga. Banda used to have more gradually rounded handle ends, and Butterfly just cut straight off.

One thing that contradicts this theory: The old Stiga blades I have had a chance to measure (ALL/OFF blades) have all been between 5,5 and 6 mm thick. Never measured a Stiga blade to 7 mm.

Could well be Donic or other - I wouldn't know.

Could the 7-ply-construction be a pre-model of the Persson Powerplay?
But this has Koto as outer ply.

Waaaay back, Stiga (and Butterfly) made blades that were heavily lacquered, with pictures of the eponymous players on the handles. I don't know if these had lenses (I suspect not). I suppose someone might not have liked the varnish and sanded it all off (including the portrait).

Hinoki suggests Butterfly to me, rather than Stiga.

Use a flatbed scanner to "photograph" the butt end of the handle, we'll be able to see the wood layers better. I'm wondering if there's a Clipper style 3 ply core.

By the way... remember what the guy who made Avalox blades was saying (in one of the OOAK interviews) about pro players and their requirements? Apparently he'd get requests from them for thicker-than-usual blades (which would also be heavier than normal), and this was why you'd occasionally find used Avalox blades that were thicker than normal.
