I'm currently contemplating on getting perhaps a more flexible blade, but I'd probably like to retain the same weight as my current bat, looking to possibly improve on spin without dropping much of the pace.

Do you guys have experience regarding shifting from a stiff to a more flexible blade, without dropping the overall bat weight?

I've seen deviations in the weights varying +/-10gr.You just have to ask the shop keeper to check the weight for you. Of course, the best will be if you can do that, because there are blades which are more or less head heavy, though they weigh the same and I think you wouldn't like to have a blade with different balance

Hmm, the local shopkeeper does have a digital scale for mail, good for up to maybe 5g resolution, which is probably ok...

I'm looking at, like, switching over to perhaps PC or a Mazunov with at least 95g blade mass. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the likes of a Clipper at 95g, since the last one I checked at the local was at around 85g.

Or maybe I'm just looking at this too much...

Ask him to measure Korbel also...

You shouldn't have any problem getting a 95 gram Mazunov, as that's probably a light one. The Primorac Carbon may be harder to get that heavy.

Sword tend to have heavy blades, the Avalox P700 is also 95 grams or more.

My thanks. I'm just guessing that the ball pace is affected by stiffness more than the weight. By how much, I'd like to know, before actually purchasing an OFF/OFF+ all-wood blade.

As there aren't too many replies, perhaps I'll take a bite and see how much the ball speed is actually affected. It's correct for me to assume that a Mazunov isn't as stiff as a PC, much less than a SC, yes?

They're all stiff blades, I'd say the Primorac Carbon is slightly less so, but bouncier on touch shots than the other two. The carbon seems to affect touch shots and high speed shots more. Keep in mind that a Mazunov, in the U.S. at least is only half the price of the other two blades.

That's why I'm keen on getting an all-wood blade, since most of the time, they seem to cost much less than the carbon blades.

Hmm, if Mazunov is still stiff, I think I'd have to look at the medium-stiff ones then.

I think, the stiffness is affecting more the spin, than the speed...

Check out the wood->wood info page on www.americanHinoki.com
to compare some woods that can be used to make 1-ply
blades that are in general more flexible than multi-ply blades.

The stiffness is most strongly a function of the thickness. Regardless of wood or carbon blades, once the blade gets to 7mm thickness, it becomes significantly stiffer than the more flexible blades which are below 6mm in thickness.

If you want similar ball impact feel but more flex, try a blade that is built similar to what you like right now but in a thinner blade.

Carbon and other stiff layers complicates this a bit since it is the strongest laminate and so the "apparent thickness" (stiffness) becomes more driven by the distance that separates the two carbon layers. Two blades with similar carbon layer separation will have generally similar stiffness even if one has a thicker layer on top of the carbon.
