Blade: ?
FH: ?
BH: ?
Typically I mainly use my thumb, index finger and middle finger to hold the handle - my last two fingers are pretty much redundant, simply keeping the handle gently company :)

I recently bought a 729 C-3 blade with a C-Pen handle which is quite a bit shorter than I'm used to with "shakehander" handles. And I like it, I like it when using a shakehand grip. The handle end doesn't jar in to my wrist area when I try and flick my hand in a motion to generate spin and the blade feels much more manoeuvrable in my hand. I've yet to put rubbers on the blade but that will be done some time this week.

I've two questions.

1. Why do shakehand blades have such long handles if most of the traditional shakehand grip is done with the thumb, index and middle finger which occupy the handle near the blade surface - the extra handle length seems redundant?!

2. Do you use a C-Pen blade for shakehand styles and if you do, what are the advantages and disadvantages you found doing this?

Thank you

I had a custom blade by american hinoki with a cpen length handle and played with it for about a year. It was no problem at all. And I have big enough hands that I have to use an overgrip on a normal blade.

The only thing to consider is of it will be too head-heavy for you. I had a small head size on the am hinoki, so the balance was still what I like.

Because the heel of the handle gives you stability.

Get a hardwood Chinese cpen blade and practice Frisbee shots ... Where if you lose a point you can "throw" the bat at the opponent

Also cpen should have a wider neck area to rest fingers on. Maybe that's why youliked it? :-)

If you're looking for a wide throat, Stiga legend and straight handles aren't that much narrower than most cpens at the top

The advantage and disadvantage is the shape of cp and sh are slightly different and so is the center of balance. I played a Taksim because I wanted a faster and softer Viscaria.
