Hi every one,

I am wondering if some one can help me out indentifying an old blade which I have acquired recently. It is a 5 ply carbon blade. Outer veneer seems to be mahogany. Dimension of the head are 15.7 x 14.9 Weight is 109 grams. The handle is made of tropical hardwoods. Considering the appearence of the handle I am thinking Swedish.
It is a fairly fast blade but with good control. Nice touch shots as well as good topspins.

Gr.

Thijs

Judging by the fact that in your 3rd picture there is a knot in the wood of the outer ply, I would be very confident that this is pre-made bat, not one sold separately. The absence of a logo/lens, the high weight and the lack of any kind of markings on the wood support this too.

I once had an Imperial blade from a premade bat. It had exactly the same handle design, but was different from the veneers. It was a 5-ply with Limba outer.

There were only stickers on the handle.

After close inspection by club members and some playing time spend it is clear to be an old five ply carbon blade instead of a three ply wood as I suggested earlier.

Any one suggestions as to maker and model?

Interesting that there'd be premades with carbon blades.

If it's a pre-made as I suggested, it won't have model name, only the name of the complete bat.

I Doubt it is a pre made. There are examples of even high quality Stiga's of the 60's and 70 's with knotches and some even have plies that are made of more than one piece of wood. The other side of the blade face has no knotch at all and is perfect.
The frame came with customized rubbers that have not been sold since early eighties. (Due to demise of company)
Carbon was a rather new and expensive development in table tennis frames in those days. Find it hard to believe that it would have been used in the construction of a pre made. Lensens etc where not common untill early eighties. Decals en stickers wear of easily.
An expert has concluded after studying grain direction of the veneer that it is built as a three ply blade, carbon only for reinforcement.

Could be a late 1970's early 80's Cor Du Buy experiment. (Since I am living in the Netherlands.)

Thanks for the link!

I have that bat also. It is has a different top veneer though, and no carbon.

Perhaps the above one belongs to a small batch of cor du buy blades designed back in the day, judging by the handle.
