Hi all,

I have ordered KKS5 re-impact blade and Im thinking can I use the same rubbers as Im using now? I have Timo Ball Allround blade and FH Rakza 7 2,0 mm and BH Ktl stranger attack 1,2mm Lp.
Do you think I should try little thinner rubbers specially FH? 1,8 rakza 7?
What kind of rubbers you are using?

Thanks and regards

Soba

Hi Soba. Achim recommends nothing more than 1.8 mm for the KKS5. Others have gone against his recommendations with other blades though, using thicker rubbers, and have posted here about them. E.G. Bionic did an extensive review of his trialing of the TURBO and he uses 2.0 mm rubbers. Kees has also reviewed the new Preference blade and talks about rubbers. I think he also happily used 2.0 mm.

It will depend to some extent on the hardness of the rubber. You don't want the ball bottoming out too quickly on hard hits and conversely you don't want the rubber isolating the ball from the effects of the wood.

Why don't you ask Achim himself and get him to explain why he recommends only 1.8 mm?

Achim wrote some time ago about thicker sponge working against the balsa in his constructions.

I had a rather extreme prototype of his, which came with essentially the same advice. However, I found that KTL Pro XP worked very well with max sponge. With Palio CJ8000 I noticed the adverse "dampening" effect he warned about when I used max rubber. With thinner sponged CJ8000 (1,5mm) it was fine.

Don't know the Rakza, but I suspect that 1,8 would be a good starting point. Hopefully you get in touch with Achim. Good luck, and have fun!
