Are all blades of Joola Wing Series and Nimatsu Maestro illegal ?? (The Laws 2.4.5)

" The Laws , 2.4.5, The blade, any layer within the blade and any layer of covering material or
adhesive on a side used for striking the ball shall be continuous and of even
thickness. "

"Continuity" (The Law 2.4.5) implies that each layer shall be continuous; for instance, a blade consisting of one type of plywood in the centre and another type at the edge would not be considered to be continuous. It is accepted that the veneers of plywood are normally made by edge-gluing pieces together to make a continuous sheet; the resulting joints may appear in the blade, but joints in more than one direction are not permitted, and neither are joints that extend from one face through to the other.

How would this differ from the way a lot of Japanese penhold blades are relieved near the handle? I've seen Chinese penhold blades with the corners rounded around the handle, too. Besides, in what way are those layers NOT continuous? They're continuous until they come to an end... And why exactly is this question "tremendous"????

You have to make a difference between blade and handle. The part of the blade used for striking, meaning beeing covered with a rubber, comply with the laws. It's much the same as with Bty Defense II, where they use 5 layers in the handle und 3 layers in the blade.

A lot of older blades and rackets (particularly in the hardbat era) also didn't have square edges, either - they were rounded off on the edges. In fact the way they'd trim new sheets of hard rubber was to use a rasp or file at an angle on the edge of the blade.

PLAYING WITH THE RACKET'S HANDLE? NO PROBLEM ...

The whole racket's constitution is BLADE + HANDLE.
That is why you may strike the ball occasionally with racket's handle as well., according to the rules definition 2.5.7
- A player strikes the ball if he touches it in play with his racket ...

Back to the topic: While surveying player's racket, umpire would only check the blade (on very rare occasion) and rubber, not handle.

Thank You for answer! As You can see in the second pic, the rubber covers the hinoki insert of Joola Wing.

I know that Nimatsu Maestro's handle is longer, just to be alligned to hinoki insert.

P.S. : "tremendous" is for joke. ;-)

ITTF specifies that :

Then Nimatsu Maestro and Joola Wing Series are illegal.

Technically you might be right... but realistically, only a very small part of the rubber covers the wings, and this is the label part of the rubber, which you would normally not intentionally use for striking the ball. If you look at pimple rubbers for example, the bottom part of the rubber does not even have pimples right the the bottom edge.

You could also then make it legal, but gluing the rubber a little higher and leaving a gap (which is perfectly legal), so that the rubber does not cover the wings.

It also has been in the market for years now. That I know of, Prasidha came out with the blade's design then followed by Joola.
