just got a new Korbel and want to seal it.
How long do I wait for it to dry off, before I can glue rubbers on it?

This is an informative link from Haggisv about sealing blades. He says to leave it overnight or 24 hours before gluing rubbers.

Thanks for the link.
It covers water-based sealants.
Is it safe to assume that oil-based should be the same procedure?

Depends on which wipe on you have. There is a quick dry and a normal version. The quick dry would be safe in 30 minutes is you wiped it on and did not paint it on. The normal, I give it overnight.

Minwax Poly is the best you can buy. You did good. :)

Woodworkers magazine tested all commonly available finishes and that one ranked in the tops.
I have used it on rifle stocks also. Holds up to rain/snow.

Do not waste your money buying "Made for table tennis" finishes. They are just repackaged finishes. Most do not even tell you what kind of finish they are. They typically cost 3 to 10 times more than the Minwax.

If there's a Walmart nearby I'd personally buy Red Devil, but that's just a preference... :lol: Do get the oil-based Red Devil, not the water based. Since there's no Walmart within several thousand miles of where I am, I make do with Pye Brand (Minwax costs a fortune over here..).

Do a search for Keme's instructions - it leaves a very thin coating of varnish on the blade and minimizes the possibility that the varnish might ruin the feel of the blade (there are people dead set against using varnish - you'll see them complaining that varnish ruins blades by altering the way they play and feel, though I haven't seen any posts recently... :lol: ).

"Wipe on" is the essence of Keme's method, though it's also followed by "wipe off"... :lol: Uses kitchen paper towels.
