Wow.. they're back. They were unobtainium for a while, I special ordered a Kiso 7 from Tenryu and then found a couple more in a shop in Bandung. (Not that I actually use them these days... :lol: But there was a time I was thinking of standardizing on these.) A couple of vendors have them, this is the cheaper of the two:

These are made in Taiwan (not China), and I think they've been sold by several companies under different brand names in the past (including Butterfly). They're supposedly Kiso hinoki (or a Taiwanese equivalent). Nice, tight perpendicular grain, as it should be, and nice one piece hinoki handle blocks. The other vendor (almost $80 a blade) has Chinese penhold versions. Somehow tempted to try a Kiso 5. But this isn't casual experimentation type money.

Are you saying these are re-branded Butterfly Kiso V's?

No, but I suspect they're the same thing, more or less. Made by the same OEM in Taiwan. Details may be different (thickness, etc.).
