I used it for the first time last week. I had been using the Firestarter which I really like. I just wanted to try the B&W to see if I was willing to lose some defensive security for the extra FH firepower. My first practice went very well especially considering this is my first time with a carbon blade. It’s a very light weight spin machine. I lost a few points because it is also a bit more reactive to spin but it definitely makes my FH more dangerous. I think I will stick with it and see if I can get used to the light weight. |

I now have the blade. Well made. Very light. Looks like different types of carbon ply on forehand and backhand. Seems from a quick spin test to have a high level of control on the backhand. Looking forward to trying it for the first time. Bulldog |

I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts. I’ve had a couple more sessions with it and still like it. I have a bit more confidence in my FH and my BH remains controlled. The smaller (normal) blade size and light weight also gives me an increased sense of manoeuvrability over the table. |

I used the Black and White today. I am going to reserve judgement on it. I have changed to 0.5mm of sponge under my Grass DTecS and only played against one looper today and went really well against him. I was basically practicing my attacking strokes with the long pips and the blade was excellent for those. Good spin on serves and the combination was excellent for lifting and driving back spin. Is there decent dwell and feel for a light carbon blade or does the ball ping off very fast.? |

The few times I have used light carbon blades they seem to work better with pips out rubbers than my TSP balsa blades. More neutral and linear without the unpredictability of bounce of non carbon balsa blades especially in passive play. Easier to hit short low pushes for instance. Bulldog have you given up in the TSP spin pips red experiment? You may find those easier to use on the B&W than the TSP 6.5 I am tempted by the new Dr Neabuer Bloodhound blade which sound like a slower B&W. |

I use the Spinpips to keep my backhand aggressive.I cannot return serves well enough with it. I am going to struggle to get ready with the Black and White setup for the new season. Playing in 3 leagues this season and the first match is 4 weeks tonight. Bulldog |

I’m not noticing any unwanted catapult, at least not on the more passive strokes where it would bother me. I was learning to twiddle with the Firestarter but it seems a bit more difficult with the lighter B&W. Hopefully that will improve with practice. |

I won’t judge it yet! I enjoyed playing with it. Need to play a heavy looper to assess its full potential. I never assume I can just play well with a new bat from the start. Bulldog |

Had a further session with this blade. Using DTecS with 0.5mm of sponge on the backhand and 2mm of Evolution FXP on the forehand. The slower backhand side gives excellent control for blocking and ample speed for lifting and aggressive pushing. Short returns of service were easy to achieve and even backhand flicks allowing me to take the initiative. The forehand side was excellent for pushing, blocking and returning short services although I often use my pips for any serves with side spin. The forehand is better for counter driving and smash than for loop but delivers quite a lot of power for such a light blade. If one takes into account the fact that that I have changed the rubbers I am using by the addition of sponge under the pip and gone for a softer sponge under the Evolution, then all in all I have made a very satisfactory start with this blade. Bulldog Definitely tempted to try one of these as a more linear alternative to my TSP balsa blades which I find difficult to short block with on the backhand as they are very springy and not that great for spin as opposed to hitting/ blocking on the FH. Bulldog did you try ELP first on the the B&W and then switch to FXP as the sponge felt too hard. The reason I ask us that I currently use Tibhar Aurus Select which is probably nearer ELP in sponge hardness and suits the softer feel of the non carbon TSP balsa blades. Concerned it may be a bit too hard on the much stiffer B&W. |
