Seems to me that there are several of you who are using balsa blades. I've used Dr N Firewall+ and the Hallmark Aurora and I know there are Cayman and TSP Balsa users here too. Care to share your speed impressions?

Fastest to slowest:

Joola R1
TSP Balsa 8.5

Donic Cayman
Dr N Firewall+
Hallmark Aurora (DEF side)

Not sure where the Donic Opticon RS will fit but from the other non-balsa blades I have used:
fastest to slowest:

Donic Opticon RS
W-6
DE-1
Instinct

That's a good list, but it's worth pointing out that there is a great drop in speed after the TSP 8.5... the others are a lot slower...

Well my Gergely has a balsa core and it would have to rate somewhere fairly high in the speed stakes. I think its at least as fast as the R1. Its hard to believe its carbon as the feel of the blasa really comes through. It does however have an unmistakeable jarring sensation that I can feel in my hand after a nights play with it though. Its not like jarring a golf club on a cold winters day, its just a ever so slight tingle.

Silver, I have both MC1 and R*1, felt R*1 is a bit faster than MC1 with the same stroke on invert and long pips. But then, I may be too prejudice.

Nah, that's butterfly usa propaganda. It's not a balsa core.

Yes tat, I can believe that. With inverted though, I always felt that the MC1 was a bit faster. It probably has to do with blade hardness and the sponge interaction.

I got a few guys here(double inverted) that have played with the mc1 and r1, and they have said the same thing. MC1 is still quicker.

How about the the fat balsa composites from juic?
The carbon, titanium and texa?
They would rate pretty fast on the list.

Butterfly dont make any balsa core beside the x5.

How would you guys rate the H1-9 compared to these balsa blades? My friend uses one that is very fast. it weighs 102g. He had another one that was 72g and it was Slow. His backup H1-9 is 110g and is very fast also.

Thats a hinoki 1 ply and is a monster.
It would up there as one of the fastest with the leopard and speed 90.
More so than the sardius and schlager

Thank you, I was curious because he hits as hard as Anybody at any level I have ever played. It would be interesting to see if he would be better in competition if he used a slower setup but there is not a chance. He likes to have FAST! :D

The TSP 8.5 is slightly faster than the Joola Cool, and virtually the same as the R1... I think it's batch variations between these, more than anything.

The JUIC Balsa blade are fast, but definitely a step slower than the R1 and TSP 8.5.. The Titanium is the fastest.

Dr. Neubauer Special is very fast. Not far below MC1/R*1. Dr. N. High Technology Plus is supposed to be even faster. Dr. N. Bulldozer is about the same as FW+. Dr. N. Barricade is slower than any of the balsa blades on the list.
