Air will launch in July the Illumina X55 their new inverted.

More speed and spin than the Scirocco series. It's being tried at the moment by a player ranked 200 in the national ranking and it is a good replacement to Tenergy.

Cheers,
Ma'man

Very interesting!

Who said they were a good replacement for Tenergy, the manufacturer or the person testing it? I've heard the claim so many times, and this claim was made for an earlier Air rubber as well, so I'm a little suspicious

Every new fast rubber these days is a 'Tenergy replacement'. 2 years ago everything was a Bryce replacement. It's all utter rubbish.

The player testing the new Air rubber was playing previously with Tenergy and switched to the Illumina. He is ranked #250 in the french pro league and if he says that it's a good replacement to Tenergy, that's more than possible don't you think?

Cheers,
Ma'man

Yes, if it comes from such an experienced player, it's well worth looking into!

I think the proof of the pudding is to see how long he sticks with this Illumina. I have myself come across several rubbers in the past that I thought 'oh goodie, this one is a keeper and I can dispense with Tenergy' and yet those rubbers has come and gone while the Tenergy is still with me. I am not saying I am pro or whatever, but rather a pro is just as human like me. Sometimes, we all get excited with something new only upon further uses realises this and that and ultimately realises that it cannot replace Tenergy after all. So let's wait a few more months and keep an eye on this player and his rubber. If this new rubber sticks and Tenergy don't reappear, then yeah, he might have found the replacement for Tenergy.

That's the most correct statement I've heard about that situation in years

It would be great to hear how YOU like it Marathon Man. To be honest I'd place more faith in your thoughts than this player even if he's highly ranked, as I know you and know you have a good feel for judging rubbers. I know some players here that are much better than me, but are hopeless at judging rubbers.

This rubber is definitely the X55 right? I've actually got a sample of both the X25 and the X95, but I have no idea what they're supposed to play like, and I still haven't got around to testing them...

I have yet to see a rubber that plays spin and control with decent speed better than Tenergy.

What do I know? You look in a picture dictionary next to rubbish and you might see a pic of me.

Still, if an O2500-2600 player says they have switched, then the rubber must...
1) Play acceptable enough 2) be supplied for free in large quantities
