Hello,

I am very new to all the latest equipment. I recently purchased a stiga carbo. My index finger likes to float up the blade while I'm playing. I thought about cutting away some of the rubber where I want my finger to stay. Is this a good idea? Will it hurt the paddle? Has anyone done this?

Welcome to the forum bobw. The only thing that might prevent you in the rules from doing this is if you cut away a part of the logo area. It would be better to leave a gap between the handle and the entire rubber for your finger to sit at the rubber base if you want to do that. It won't hurt the setup at all to cut some rubber away though, if you're not needing to abide by the ITTF rules and still wish to do this.

I cut my rubber, leaving a wood spot for my finder.

Like REB recommends, I was still able to keep my ITTF Logo and the rubber's logo intact.

I much prefer this finger on wood feel.

What is the blade? One you made? It is not the one in your signature.

Yea, some people do that. I've actually seen people cut away part of the FH rubber where the thumb often lies. It'll only hurt the paddle if you cut the rubber while it's still attached to the blade, otherwise I don't see how that could hurt it.

hookshot asked about my blade:

The picture is the blade I use, it is a customized LKT Instinct, I cut it like that because it allows me to serve with a hammer grip, then very quickly twiddle 180 degrees to get to my shakehand grip. I made the blade 10% smaller than original. I can play for 3 hours and only hit 5 balls "off the edge", so the reduced size doesn't bother me.

Thanks for asking!

When I first red the title I though cutting the finger would be the solution  .

People learning to grip the unconventional way often invents new technique to suit their style. This is such a beauty in playing table tennis. How I wish I could invent a unique grip for myself. ;)
