Incredibly fast. Super spinny. And yet -- miraculously -- a rubber with great control. The latest generation of advanced materials research.

Obviously all of this has to be true, as in Word of God true, because it says so on the package.

rasant
, e
adj
(MILITAIRE)
[balle, tir] grazing
* (=ennuyeux) boring

I had a look on the web and discovered that rasant is a French word that typically means, grazing or shaving. But there was also a reference to it meaning, boring. (From the Collins French to English dictionary)

Probably sums it up ... :P :P :P

Looks like it's made the latest ITTF LARC, despite breaching the 'advertising before ITTF approval' rule.

That rule applies only to non-ITTF sponsoring rubber manufacturers. ;) ;) ;)

I wonder if anyone was using it at the WTTTC?

Makes perfect sense to me.
"Grazing" obviously referenced by the grass green colour.
"Boring" probably hints at the ability to penetrate the opponent's defense.

On a different note, I mended a hole in my compression sock today with a piece of Rasant 100. Admittedly, needlecraft is not my biggest forte, but I can still go seriously off topic just to waste some screen real estate for you (you really don't want to see this):

Not sure how many people have used this rubber yet but its become popular with players around here in the last week.

It's good rubber, definitely not for beginners. If you are a counter looper in the US2200 range and up you might enjoy it a lot. US2000 might get away with it in the thinner sponged versions

A friend of mine (rated VIC 1400ish) who usually uses T05 recently bought a sheet of Rasant. He said that it is similar in character to T05 but estimates that T05 has about 15% more zing. Of course this is just one person's opinion.

Well we'll see. Got a sheet of it today in 2.1. Don't know when I'll get around to trying it. You always reckon I use too fast a FH rubber on my fast blade, yet it works for me, so this might just work too! :P

@Carbonman - I'd be surprised if it had less zing than T05, unless you mean topspin zing. T05 is pretty slow for anything but well executed topspin compared to Andro rubbers like Hexer and Roxon in my experience.

Yes, he was specifically talking of topspin zing. He said he had to put more effort into looping with the Rasant in order to get the same results. Again, this is just his opinion.

In that case, I'd reckon he could be right! ;) I don't loop with heavy topspin generally, so I don't think I get the best out of T05.

I guess for someone totally adapted to T05 you could say it was better than Rasant, but then again even a piece of cheese is within 15% of anything else including Tenergy so anytime I hear 15% more spin from this or that, well that's just being silly. A lot of people think T05 makes a lot of spin but when you are on the receiving end of it all day like I am, I'm quite sure it's not as spinny as people imagine it is.

For me not being used to playing with either but having used both Rasant is both more spinny and faster than T05 and quite easily at that. Rasant feels more natural in the way it behaves to me, T05 always felt a little wobbly.

They are made in a very similar way and I'd be surprised if the chemical composition of the sponge wasn't near identical 8)

Neither are really suitable for me as a forehand rubber, both are a bit too soft for my forward swing but I am considering Rasant in 1.7mm on the backhand

He didn't say T05 was necessarily better he just felt it had more zing. 15% was just a guesstimation on his part - I don't see anything wrong with this as it provides some sort of guide. This guy has fairly good BH and FH loops and practices almost exclusively on his robot. This would enable him to have a reasonably stable framework with which to compare. Again, this is only his opinion.

Last night I had a very brief hit with a bat with T05 on one side and Rasant on the other. The Rasant had slightly harder sponge and was a touch quicker when flat hitting. Unfortunately my shoulder is still not ready to loop so I can't compare them in this critical area. I suspect that due to the softer sponge the T05 might be preferable for me for looping but this is just a guess. In any case, the Rasant looked to be quite nice rubber.

Interesting you felt it was harder than T05, they both feel about the same softness (both medium) to me. Both very grippy and consistently grippy anyway. Not everyone seems to be able to agree which is better or spinier, everyone seems to agree Rasant is faster : :|. It's a top class rubber, that's one I'm sure about
