Hi all,

Been playing with T80 for a month now. When I first got it, I absolutely loved the feel of it - all kind of attacking strokes were effortlessly pacey with a high throw, notable catapult effect and loads of spin.

Suddenly, in the last week, it feels like my rubber has "died". I'm putting loads of shots into the net and that usual "catapult" effect has all but disappeared. I can still spin with it and I can still play aggressively with active strokes but it's nowhere near as quick as it was.

Is this a common phenomenon? Is there anything I can do about it?

That is common among Tenergy series. Try regluing maybe you'll get some of the catapult effect back.

I'm sure they're tuned to some extend, so when that wears off there will be a drop in performance. Some people notice it much more than others.
The only other possibility is cold weather... that can really suck the life out of a rubber at times, but it returns when it warms up.

The few guys that use it locally use the falco long life booster on their t80 to keep it feeling like it does from the packet. One cold weather tip I can offer is to put your bat under your jacket or arm to warm the rubber sheets between play. Always helped me in cold conditions.

Deffo not the weather, it's ridiculously warm in our venue at the moment. Well, probably pretty cold in comparison to your club actually  but warm for us!

It has been a really noticeable drop in performance, to the extent that I've lost a lot of confidence in my forehand :( I'm basically netting any shot that I don't play with full power which is really frustrating. I guess I'd gotten used to the catapult and now that it's lessened it's having a detrimental impact on my game.

Considering how much the rubber cost I feel like I've been conned, really. It's a fairly average rubber in its current state - it was phenomenal when I first bought it.

apophis - thanks for that. Something like that might be the answer and to be honest I'm annoyed that I'm even considering it. I don't have the money to replace it at the moment though so it might be a good short-term answer. Does Falco Long Life help to "restore" that catapult feel? I thought boosters generally just softened the sponge?

A few people that I know use the booster as well. Just a single thin layer is usually enough to restore the catapult.
The legality is questionable and not clear cut... treating a rubber is illegal, but there is no mention that restoring it to it's original condition is illegal.

A thin layer on the topsheet or the sponge, haggis? Falco Tempo Long Life Booster?

Definitely only on the sponge. I would not recommend it on the top-sheet, as my few little experiments revealed it leaves a residue that can be near impossible to remove. The Falco expander can be used on both though.

That might have to be the answer, then. I guess with a thin coat and only one layer my bat would only be out of action for 48 hours or so?

Tuner is applied to the sponge only...you need normal glue to attach it to you blade.
Waiting time depends on the tuner.. the longer it last the longer you need to wait. Read my detailed article on boosters here.

Alright, fair enough.

I might just give the Life Expander a go and see if that helps. If it doesn't, I'll try the proper booster stuff.

Nowhere in the UK appears to sell it though :/

Tenergy was only ever sriver + tuner / oil. I'm the biggest fan of playing without tuner but using rubbers without tuner sure feels like a disadvantage when the majority of rubbers are boosted from the factory. One of these days I'll probably use it but if I do I wont do it under the radar. I'll just say this is re-boosted and that's that.

Strange. Mine has still catapult and it's more than 2 months old. It's less, true, but it's more controllable that way. You can loop/hit harder without overshooting. I found the catapult kicks in when the sponge is involved. I'm coming from the T64 which has a major catapult affect. Off course, it's also possible that my blade has something to do with it...

I wonder if that's related to shelf-life, i.e. some rubbers have been sitting in store for many months before they are sold, and some of the tuning effect is already starting to wear off?
