That is a slightly enigmatic site. But, so are all sites connected to DHS, in some way. Li-ning seem to be the owner, but feature very few rubbers on their site https://www.shop-lining.com/table-tennis-rubber/

http://www.dhs-sports.com/1a952cde-dbf6 ... 6b1d91367/ shows Gold Arc 8, which seems to be a Tensor. And Gold Arc 5, which also seems to have German involvement with the topsheet. But can't find Gold Arc 3. I'm getting the Japanese info from GH Sports on Aliexpress. Ho hum.

Very interesting indeed. Yeah, Gold Arc 8 has Tensor and BIOS logos on the packet, while Gold Arc 5 only has the BIOS but no Tensor logo (just like Musa.. ). I expect Tensor-like prices. Neither are on Eacheng yet. And of course, no Gold Arc 4..



Hmm.. turns out there's three versions of Tin Arc - Original, 3 and 5. Confused because when I checked out GH Sport's index, there was no Tin Arc 3, only Original and 5. A little detective work found 3 filed away under DHS blades!

Looked on Tabletennis11 just in case Gold Arc 5 and 8 were available there, but no. Funny that Gold Arc 3 costs less there than Tin Arc 3 though (EUR26 vs. EUR29).

Have been using XiYing 999 rubbers (44-45 deg) for 2 months. The sponge is pretty soft. Similar to Yinhe Mercury II medium (36-38 deg). In fact both of them plays almost the same .

I THINK I have a couple of sheets of that lying around, and never got around to trying it. I should, if the sponge is different. Probably be OK in the wet, too.

A little under 68 grams, pretty heavy.

I suspect 999 Corp. rubbers are made using older equipment/techniques compared to 729, Yinhe and other companies. The rubber compounds feel different, the tackiness seems a different sort (more of an extreme grippiness), and whatever they use to glue the topsheets to the sponge is a little weaker and deteriorates over time. Their "protector sheets" are also a lot thicker than normal, you can even use them as protector sheets after you've cut the rubber, since they're pretty stiff. I pulled out a 1+1 pack that I bought over two years ago to make up my humid weather bat, and on one of the sheets part of the topsheet had pulled loose at the edges. I went out and bought some formica counter grade contact cement and glued it back. Seems to play OK.

Looked for it on GH Sports, it's NOT listed under 999 rubber but IS listed under XiYing. On both 999 and XiYing packaging, they list the "Tianjin Chan Xing Sports Goods Co. Ltd." as the company that makes the rubber.

Yes, it's the Xiying 2 in 1 package.

The sponge color and hardness is very close to Yinhe Mercury II. They even play very much alike.

In which case the 999 scale and the Yinhe scale are very different.. 44-46 degrees on the 999 scale and, what, 38 degrees on the Yinhe scale would be equivalent.

I wouldn't trust the scale (deg) for lower end rubbers. In fact, some company already got rid of the numbers and only rate them as soft, medium and hard. Even that, I won’t be surprised if there is some irregularities from different batches .

Yes I noticed that. DHS and Yinhe in particular. Haven't checked 729 in a while, I think Batwings is still marked with degrees, but the "training sponge" rubbers have almost always been "med hard", etc.

Just received the Gold Arc 3. Very quick, 11 days from order to arrival in England.

It looks very good, and feels softer than any other DHS rubber I have tried. I got in red, 35 degree, 2.1mm (stamped on sponge). The sponge also seems red (indoor lighting). The back of the pack (gold) states Number 50 sponge with Japanese "super-elasticity anti-adhesive topsheet", although it has the normal DHS protective sticky plastic cover on it.

It'll probably be a couple of months before I can convince myself that I need to replace the Tibhar Evolution MX-P. But possibly not. Hmm, I could break it in on the Clipper...

They came off some Chinese web site, I think. I thought I'd give it a try. I do have an expensive macro lens but I thought I'd try it with my trusty flatbed scanner set at 2400 d.p.i. resolution:







I suppose, in comparison, mine look horrible. I can see why the Chinese photos only use red rubber. Problem is - a lot of the stuff I've bought over the last two years I bought in black. A few lessons learned: 1) get darker graph paper, or consider photoshopping in a scale (which is what I think they did). 2) Crop more. 3) Try more post-processing in photoshop. Worst comes to worst I'll break out the camera and macro lens. 4) Blow off the dust before scanning!

My set up was pretty simple. Just sandwich the rubber between two wood pieces and put it on the platen. The two wood pieces are held together with blu-tack.



Biggest problem is cutting the rubber just so you can see the sides of the pips without cutting through the pips. Very difficult with black sheets, as you can imagine.

Instead of cutting a straight line through the pips, does cutting diagonally help ? You will still end up with some pips not getting cut but I think we only need some of the pips to show up. So you could select the section that has the majority of the pips cut ?

No, it's got to be cut parallel to a row. By the rules, all rubbers have the pips arranged so that you have three directions, at 120 degrees to each other, that define the rows. If you don't cut parallel to one of these directions the pip spacing will differ.

It's for tomorrow.. April Fool's Day. I put it on a M8 blade, with an old sheet of Hadou on the other side. What's so April Fool's about that? Both sides are black... I wonder how long before someone notices... Expect a lot of popped-up serve returns at Social Doubles tomorrow...

As expected, pretty expensive, Tensor-like prices. 5 costs a few cents less than Barracuda, 8 costs a couple (US) dollars or so less than Evolution MX-P. Checked both Eacheng and Tabletennis11, neither have them yet. As an aside, I've been playing with Tinarc for the last three weeks or so, and I do like it. Can't say it's any better or any worse than what I was using before (Whale), but it's definitely nice for a large range of shots - brush and heavy-contact loops, flat topspin drives, pushes, chops.
