Hello everyone,

Can you please share your thoughts on Marder and Marder II and the differences in speed? I know the topsheets are the same.

For reference, please compare to Reflectoid if you can. Otherwise reference other popular rubbers (xiom, tenergy, etc).

I'm trying to put together a better combo for my double inverted setup..aka the "Quit complaining about long pips setup." I'm also inspired by Nikolay Telnoy (see video section).

I have the Marder in black 1.5. Very slow rubber indeed. Super control on defensive strokes.
To me, comparing to giant dragon submarine and 729 fx super soft, the marder has the softer feeling.
The sponge is very soft and also the topsheet. You can really "hug" the ball.
My Marder lost all its (little) stickyness after a while, but it is still grippy. Although I kept it clean.
The quality of the rubber is not top. But for the price it's OK.

Thanks! Have you tried the Marder II? Or reflectoid?

My problem with real slow chopping rubbers is that at times they're actually too slow to me. Perhaps because I've become used to chopping with a tensor on my forehand. I think i'd want some catapult...just not too much. I think what I'm trying to find is a slightly slower/thinner version of Omega IV Asia for the backhand.

I like reflectoid, but it's not spinny enough on serves...otherwise it's good. I would actually prefer it to be a little softer but faster...if that makes sense. The reflectoid sponge is slow not because of softness so much, but rather because it's not dense and mostly air. Versus tackiness C or Triple spin where sponges are butter-soft but still pretty dense comparatively.

No, I haven't tried them. But a friend of mine has switched from reflectoid to marder.
He at the time said both are quite similar.
Mmh, I guess the Marder II or even the III have that some catapult you are talking about.
But not the regular Marder. I suspect it is way slower than ur Xiom Omega Asia.
I know that also Xiom Yanus, Donic Slice 40, Nittaku Moristo DF, have that bit of catapult you are looking for.
I saw a very good defender on youtube with marder II on both sides, I don't remember his name...

Xiom Yanus certainly has catapult. Not a traditional defensive rubber by any standards.

After toying with my double inverted chopping setup (Deflplay Reflectoid and Omega IV Asia) I finally broke down and bought Marder II 2.0mm just like Telnoy uses. We'll see how that goes.

I didn't like it at all. The rubber was fast enough, certainly faster than reflected on passive shots. However, the throw was so low and weird that I had to adjust my stroke considerably. So considerably that it was disconcerting. This was for both colors. It would be okay as a backhand rubber for a double inverted setup. However as a forehand rubber the throw it's just too awkward.

hmm,

lower throw than Reflectoid, making in sound like Flextra.

I have played against 3 decent quality inverted defenders this season and noticed they were using kokutaku 868 Blutenkirsch .There is a 1.0 def version and an allround version ranging 1.5 -2.0 sponge, very tricky to play against and they could attack well also with this.
