And that's where I'm confused by the move of Xiom to make the sponge of the Vega Asia DF softer. Ironically, the ITTF only authorise the rubber top sheet, not the sponge. So for the DF to have it's own authorised number it must be a different top sheet to the standard Xiom Vega Asia. Is it possible that when people are measuring the hardness of "rubbers" they are measuring the hardness of the topsheet and the sponge combined". Is it possible the top sheet of the DF is very very soft, but the sponge still remains harder or even harder?

Thanks for the offer Andy. I would be interested in trying the DF out. If there's something you are interested in trying, maybe we can share.

The topsheet on Asia DF is different as well, yes. It's similar to the one on Acuda Blue / Rasant Beat - super soft, squashy and lacking in instant elasticity. I really liked the original Asia, but Asia DF is a different fish IMO. And I know what you mean about the topsheet/sponge being a bit misleading, but honestly - Asia DF's sponge is really quite soft. Omega V Asia is like a brick in comparison (and is much more like the original Vega Asia if you ask me).

I'll send you a PM!

Definitely different. They've added that weird symbol to the left of the BIOS logo:

Not sure what it means but only Vega Europe and Vega Asia "DF" rubbers have the symbol. Maybe "8th generation Tensor"? These ID strips are starting to look like those stickers on digital cameras, what with all the logos. Wonder what "Hyper Elasto" means. There's also a Yanus (shouldn't it be "Janus"?) DF.

just to contribute a bit, i am a long time user of mx-p on my fh...

last year i bought 1 sheet of mx-s just to see the difference (with celluloid balls)...it was exactly as advertised, harder sponge than mx-p with a grippier topsheet...the effect was very good at first...better for serve and receive, block, 1st spin on an underspin ball...but i lost my killer penetrating spin i had with mx-p...it simply didnt have any catapult in it, so for generating the same amount of spin and speed as with mx-p i had to be perfect on the ball and swing the hardest i can every time...if i am not, my balls were easily blocked by my sparing partner...

so, the long intro was because of this question...how is it that that rubber (mx-s) is for the plastic ball which is slower than the celuloid ball, because the rubber was too slow even for celluloid...you WILL have a higher spin with it to compensate for a less spin on a plastic balls, but speed will suffer a lot...imo ofc, what you guys think?

I think that that 40+ rubbers feel like they have a softer topsheet that is less tensioned then previous ESN tensors, maybe to grab the ball more completely, although have a harder sponge to compensate for the loss of the tension/speed.

I found the same using Plaxxon450 where it felt like I had to throw myself into the ball to get good penetration but that caused a loss of control by feeling that I had to overcommit to the stroke.

Just wondering what this "tension" is.. What do you feel, exactly? None of these topsheets are "tensioned" - not like when you speed-glued in the old days when you slapped the rubber on the blade while it was still domed up. The sheets are flat, therefore no tension on the topsheet. I know you're feeling something, maybe I'll have to try it myself...

I like MX-P a lot more with the plastic balls we use in Houston (Nitraku Ptrmeium, seamless, Btfly G40) compared to the first to e I used it, with celluloid.
