The 9000 and differences have been described in Iskandar's training-rubber thread. Iirc its differences were weight and speed.
Also interesting, for me at least, the Dragon training rubbers from ttnpp, $4 each with top-sheets from Emperor, Drunken, Hidden or Wildish Dragon.

i remember those dragon rubbers.

they were terrible. rubbish topsheet

Didn't you use Victas V 01 Limber before, and liked it?

You could go for something similar, or perhaps Vega Europe which is similar. Regalis Red is another option if you want a more linear feel.

Yes I used V01 Limber on forehand but for some reason I never try my rubbers on the other wing so no idea how it was for backhand. I'm also playing a bit differently on backhand now and doing spinny loops a lot more.

Can you explain what linear would mean for me?

Really? I liked them so much the last time I ordered eight sheets or so.

Or try Yinhe 9000. If you don't like it you're out $5.15 for the sheet.

9000D or 9000E

Whats the difference again? Can't find your review.

The truth is, I can't tell the difference! Someday I'll write to Yinhe and ask them. Can't read Chinese, and all the blurbs in English are identical.

To tell the truth, I'd recommend neither D nor E. I recommend instead the ones you get in the 2-for-1 package, currently has red sponge, and which I think is neither D nor E. Cheaper, AND lighter, and I THINK the sponge is a little softer (though it's hard to tell). And plays very nicely. The retail-packed sheets of D and E I got turned out to be quite heavy.

These are probably irregular "surplus" of some sort (probably from their premade bat line), they won't be there forever. Once they're gone, they're gone, until Yinhe has more surplus sheets. Interesting thing is that Eacheng is the only retailer who's got it. Check ebay too, you never know, might be cheaper by a few cents.

i think i tried them around 06 off ebay. maybe i got a bad batch or it just didnt gel with my technique. i was using either glued up 999 blue sponge or glued mark v 30 at the time...

Tensors tend to get a lot of 'kick' when you engage the sponge, which means you get an increase in both speed and spin with less effort. This is especially noticable with softer sponges, and often associated with the 'click' feel and sound. This is non-linear.
Traditional rubbers are much more linear, so you get more power as you put more effort into the shot. Although linearity gives you more control over the ball, the Tensors make for a more powerful weapon, so if you can control, it can be a better choice.
Since I believe you mentioned that you really like that 'clicky' sound from your rubbers, it's really only Tensors (and Japanese equivalents) that give you this.

Hmm... that was a LONG time ago - I was trying these out when I started playing again, which was maybe 2014. If I was getting the same sheets you got they'd have to be VERY old, it's far more probable that the currently available sheets (the cheapest I've seen so far are from ttnpp, which are about $5.50 per sheet once you've factored in shipping) are a newer batch. I found these to be better than even brand new, vacuum packed Palio rubbers, including Emperor Dragon and CJ8000 (and Yasaka ZAP, which is actually Palio). The new, retail-packet sheets have varying amounts of "dish" (in some cases, really spectacular amounts of dish - got a crease in the topsheet when I tried to apply it to the blade). The "surplus" dragon sheets were just plain flat. Played as well as anything else I've tried, and were on the faster side of the spectrum (not that there's all that much difference between Chinese sheets). Nice match for my N11 blades.

By the way, I've seen these for sale for over $20 a sheet - website claims they're "National Version"..

Yinhe 9000 weight comparisons:

Yinhe 9000# (cut oval generic packaging)
red 51.47g 0.225g/cm^2
black 49.9g

Yinhe 9000 (rectangular generic pack, red sponge)
red (red sponge) 61.95g 165x168mm 0.227g/cm^2
black (red sponge) 57.5g 165x170mm 0.208g/cm^2

Yinhe 9000E
red medium sponge 69.98g 166x166mm 0.258g/cm^2
red soft sponge 65.55g 165.5x166mm 0.242g/cm^2

Yinhe 9000D
red medium sponge 71.76g 165.5x165 mm 0.267g/cm^2

Post subject:  Re: New Backhand Rubber Wanted

Here we are again. In the end I got the Xiom Vega Europe DF which seemed pretty good. Unfortunately its shrunk quite a bit this week when putting on a new blade. I'm using some baby oil to try expand a bit but then its probably going to change the properties anyway. Its likely a dead duck and I need a new rubber.

I know I'm over thinking it a bit but I'm really struggling to make a decision. The next 6 months I plan to play to develop my game including backhand looping and attacking more. One minute I'm thinking get a classic rubber like Mark V, Stiga Mendo, Joola Zack, Xiom Musa but am worried about losing some spin and speed and also that maybe they are a little too hard.

On the other hand I'm thinking of getting a more controlled tensor like Baracuda Big Slam, Donic Desto F3, Xiom Vega Elite so that I can still get speed and spin without blowing out my technique, but worried that maybe they could be too fast. Also worried about the shrinkage effect if I decide to test on another blade.

Another thought was just to get any chinese thing and just run with it like 729FX or Dawei Inspirit Quattro.

Would I really lose that much spin and speed going classic? Its doing my head in. Its funny how all of a sudden when it comes to picking a rubber for yourself it becomes a self-created minefield. I know what I'd tell someone else but I just can't pull the trigger.

Please help.

Just from the last year or so playing, I notice that the backhand is where the amount of spin REALLY depends on technique, especially for topspin drives. You can't apply as much power as on the forehand, but whether or not you get a lot of spin depends mainly on how much wrist you use (rather than what rubber you use). I find myself going for speed rather than spin on the backhand - I don't attempt brush loops (on the backhand - on the forehand I use them quite a bit), but I do put a lot of wrist into counter-drives and even flattish hits. So far, I've been using tacky Chinese rubbers (slower ones, such as 9000, 868 etc.) and they seem to be working fine for me. One thing to worry about is bounciness - you do tend to push and bump a lot on the backhand and you don't want to pop balls up.

I've just been in touch with my friend who is a bit better than me. His comment was that he's found it more difficult to handle my backhand since I've been using the tensor and without the extra spin and late dip, he would find me a lot easier.

On this basis I'm now probably looking at a soft-medium tensor.

Surely before you try the Tensors, you could try out Tibhar Genius Optimum+ Sound ? or Tibhar 5Q Sound (Power update).

For raw power/speed, Donic Bluefire M2 or JP3 or one of those is super duper fast.

For spin in case you can't afford Tenergy rubbers, Joola Maxx450 ? 350 ? something ? Or also Rhyzm-P or SAmba-P or one of those -P rubbers.

If you're not sure about classics v tensors you could always try one of newer 'introductory tensors' that have reduced tensor effect. Andro GTT 40 and Donic Desto F4 are a couple of the softer ones. GTT 45 is medium and there's Desto F1, 2 & 3.

For a soft and/or flexy blade: ANY old-gen Palio rubber in 36-38 deg: CJ8000 +- Biotech, HK1997 Biotech, Hidden Dragon Biotech. If there is need, they all react well to boosting and hold booster forever.

For a hard and stiff blade (Yinhe N-series fall in this category): Yinhe's Mars II (low throw) or Moon (medium to medium-low) or Mercury II (somewhat worse quality, medium to medium-high throw, tacky when new), all in Soft sponge. Do not boost well but play perfectly fine as is. Feel a bit too mushy on soft 5-ply's.

All these rubbers will allow to put power in your shot without risk of bottoming out and not being rocket-fast, thus facilitating development of proper stroke. All of them have excellent grip, enough zip to finish points and good control in the short game. Plus - they're cheap, the most expensive one is Moon at $12 shipped from China.

The best blade I've ever used is a Waldner senso carbon (in the waldner shape) with wait.. I'll tell you exactly.

TT blade Donic Waldner Senso Carbon JO Shape
Handle Type
(FL)

TT Rubber Victas VS > 401
1.8 black

TT rubber NITTAKU Magic Carbon
thick (1,8) red

I must have made up 100 bats in my time and that was the best one.

PS Magic carbon is like Mark V but maybe a bit more zingy. And oddly the second best bat I made up used the non JO shape waldner senso carbon... You'd think I'd own one myself after that... I always intended to get one.
