Hey man the kids are spot on. Ill let you know on the health after I have my first hit in a year tomorrow at a small tournament. Having trouble staying asleep but that's usual pre tournament. I seem able to control the health by eating no carbohydrates but can I play two days, not sure yet. Are you still playing?

Well sleep never did happen, but lucky you are here carbonman, you can tell ol blue eyes what rubber to buy. That reminds me your bat was one of the best I ever used too buy its unbuyable anyway. I might as well drive to the tournament early and do some food shopping first.

Thanks for the suggestions, some really good ones there. The Joola Maxxx-P had me really interested. As it turns out, I was able to salvage the Vega Europe with some baby oil. It's a fraction small but edge tape has taken care of that. It seems to play fine, maybe less spin and speed than before but good enough for me. In fact it's probably like Cj8000 [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND TIGHTLY-CLOSED EYES]

Having said that, it's on its way out so will keep in mind the suggestions for a few months time.

Well done mate. How was the H2 compared to Mark V, what are the differences?

Surely before you try the Tensors, you could try out Tibhar Genius Optimum+ Sound ? or Tibhar 5Q Sound (Power update).

For raw power/speed, Donic Bluefire M2 or JP3 or one of those is super duper fast.

For spin in case you can't afford Tenergy rubbers, Joola Maxx450 ? 350 ? something ? Or also Rhyzm-P or SAmba-P or one of those -P rubbers.

And here I was, thinking those were all Tensors..

H2 is a terrible rubber! luckily it's almost just as terrible to play against as it is to use. But if you want to have fun in your table tennis you don't use it. TG3 even though it looks the same it is much easier to use. I didn't make a good choice using H2 in the end. I won the championship but didn't play very well generally. I will buy the complete setup I posted above before the next time I have a hit whenever that might be.

Ahh my mistake :-D I think Genius Optimum+ Sound and Tibhar 5Q Sound may not be Tensors ? because I "felt" those 2 are the most linear Euro rubbers.

Donic Bluefire and Joola rubbers MUST be Tensors ! Donic with the INSANE speed and Joola with the UNCONTROLLABLE spin !

I've just been in touch with my friend who is a bit better than me. His comment was that he's found it more difficult to handle my backhand since I've been using the tensor and without the extra spin and late dip, he would find me a lot easier.

On this basis I'm now probably looking at a soft-medium tensor.

One rubber that seems to fit this description perfectly is Hexer Duro, it is highly praised and was recommended to me at tt-spin.de
Here is the review from them http://www.tt-spin.de/andro-hexer-duro/

here is also a huge Hexer Duro thread on german forum: http://forum.tt-news.de/showthread.php?t=102611

I remember reading there from couple of coaches that they recommend this rubbers to juniors going from classics to first tensors since it is balanced in every way: medium hardness (42.5 degrees), limited catapult and yet its pretty spinny and produces nice arc and it really is supposed to be durable.

I have ordered a sheet one week ago to try it out from ttnpp for mere 28$.

I am also surprised that you got so unlucky with Xiom Europe Df, I have also reglued it from my Appelgren to Avalox without shrinkage and the rubber is going strong with perfect grip for 7 months now.

Btw, what happened to Regalis Red you used for a while, didn't meet the expectations?

I'm sure Hexer Duro is great but my mates are Hexer fan boys so I'll give it a miss.

The Regalis is red and I need black. Replaced it very soon as I find a $10 Gewo Flexxon on eBay so bought it to try and haven't changed back. No reason.

It just breaks the years worth of learning people have done returning topspin balls that come down from higher angles because it flys much lower.

Does that mean it produces a lot more topspin than people expect, or a lot less topspin than people expect? Interesting..

I've been really happy with Rakza 7 soft as my backhand rubber. I'm currently using the 2.0 thickness with an OFF- blade. It's has a nice blend of speed and control for me. People say that it feels "mushy", but I like that for my backhand. Great for backhand looping. It also has a little bit of tackiness (just enough).

Oh, and it's currently on sale at tabletennis11.
