This is the time of year in the UK with the winter season over that we tend to experiment with equipment. I have shelved my all wood Xiom offensive S blade and I am currently playing (last 6 weeks) with an andro treiber Q composite blade. I am really impressed with this, it is the first composite that I have got on with and not found too bouncy in the short game, yet it has a really quick top end. I shall be persevering with this blade for some while. A notable characteristic (not necessarily good or bad) is that it plays flatter than my previous blade and you need to adjust accordingly.

Rubbers presently are Evolution MXP max fh and Rakza 7 soft bh, lightly used ones that came from my backup blade.

Tempted by the 4 for 3 offers at Dandoy etc I am contemplating changing the r7soft for els or fxs. I feel that I get more spin (on serves for sure) with the mxp to the extent that I even twiddle for serves in doubles..... And the 's' evolutions are meant to be spinnier than the 'p' sheets too.

I wondered if anyone had experiences of the rubbers in the title to share?

I'd mess around with what you have at the moment. Try using the MX-P on BH and Rakza on FH, and see how that goes.

I am very FH dominant, but trying hard to develop a BH looping attack. On the rare occasions where I feel confident with the placement of the opponent's shot, I can execute a good down the line BH now. FWIW, I have MX-P on the BH of my all-wood HL3 (H8 on FH) and EL-S on BH of my composite FB2. I find the EL-S a little more controllable, but this is very subjective, especially given the difference in the blades (ie, I put less physical action into the shot with this bat), and the fact that it is a backup rather than main. But I don't get on with Tensors on my FH so far, probably because I have adjusted to the Hurricane.

OTOH, my coach is a big fan of Rakza 7 Soft, which I find very mushy.

Thanks for the reply - it does tell me I missed a few key bits of information out.

Firstly my Rakza 7 soft is only 1.8mm, as like you I am forehand dominant. (Like you I am developing my backhand attack). MX-P max is great for my forehand and I have no intention of changing it, but it would be too powerful for my bh.

You have confirmed one thing for me, which is really helpful; R7 soft is softer/mushier than EL-S. That agrees with what I have read. I suspect FX-S would be nearer to R7 soft, but from what I read even that may be a little firmer.

Any thoughts on EL-S vs R&S in the spin dept?

I mainly worry about spin on the FH, especially on the serve. However, BH push, which is a shot I often revert to, as well as train for in low level league play, is very good with the EL-S, and opponents often underestimate the amount of backspin and net the ball. (I tend to keep this quiet, because I don't want them to think about it. So don't tell anyone). Versus the R7S, I don't really know. My coach has R7S on both sides of an Avalox P500, thinner on the BH, and can spin me off the table, although I rarely net his backspin. I think you won't be surprised by the one v the other. I don't feel that's particularly helpful though. The problem with these things is trying to find someone who has a lot of current experience with the two rubbers.
