So everyone knows that Chinese players use dhs hurricane 3 neo blue sponge, but to my surprise Ma Long and Fan Zhendong use orange sponge dhs h3 neo on their backhand except Zhang Jike who uses tenergy 80 if I am correct. Why is this? If someone knows that he uses dhs h3 as well then this topic should not be further explored but if some one has solid proof that it is tenergy 80 then can someone answer me please.

I don't have up to date information - where did you get yours? However, I did hear this anecdotally, and I believe it's a change since the move to the plastic ball. Previously all the CNT tended to have some form of Tenergy on their BH, I believe.

Supposedly the backhand version of H3 used by Ma Long et al. is quite different than the forehand version. Supposedly softer sponge. There's already a long and gnarly thread about this if you look through the forum. There are vendors (or at least, a vendor) in China who claims to sell one or more versions of this rubber (like the forehand rubber, the backhand ones are tailor-made for each individual). If there ever was a trend towards H3 on the backhand it seems to be over.. according to this site:

https://tabletennis.guide/rating_ittf.php?gender=1

only Ma Long still plays with H3 on the backhand, all the other Chinese men down to 20th place play with some form of Tenergy. On the womens' side, NO ONE uses H3 on the backhand (down to 20th place). Mind you, don't know how up to date THIS information is, either.

Look around, you won't find red H3 with blue sponge. Even the "National" H3 versions in the white packet. Why not? It shows through the topsheet - makes the rubber too dark, is my guess. There's supposedly "CNT versions" of Tenergy as well... or so that certain website claims - and they claim to sell it  . (AND a "National" - i.e. Chinese National - version of Evolution MXP, too, in the German-flag packet.)

Sun YingSha uses H3 on the BH. As seen on T2.

If you want to experiment, just get a H3-50 soft. It's consistent with great control and spin.

I prefer that over Tenergy for my BH.

I remember reading somewhere that Fan Zhendong has switched his backhand to a tacky rubber due to the new ball.

The questions, though, are: Where did you read it, and how long ago? It's entirely possible a bunch of people tried it and switched back.

That was posted Jan 31 2016, almost two years ago. Even if this was the case at the time I wonder if it's still true now, or if he's switched back.
