Lots and lots of threads about shoes. Just do a few searches... Aside from actual table tennis shoes, racketball/squash shoes seem popular. Unless you're playing at Cobo Hall (do they play there any more?) with its rough concrete floor - supposedly wears out a pair in a single tournament.

I wear these:

No good when it rains, though... injured myself doing the splits on a slightly wet floor. I bring out my old fake Butterflies when it threatens to rain.

They are all the same, and either cheap or over priced. The brand name shoes are over-priced. I bought what I'm sure are fake Mizunos...not certain if they are, but the price was like 30 bucks. You can get very good and inexpensive shoes on aliexpress, ebay, wish, and amazon. I got mine on the Wish app, and they imported from china.

For all TT shoes, I will be buying performance sole inserts. Sports gel sole inserts make them soooo nice.

I have wider feet and have been rather happy with Mizuno WAVE KAISERBURG line. Expensive I suppose but they have held up rather well. So well I bought 2 more pairs when I was in Japan.

I also have a pair of Kelme that I like as well. Also put inserts in them. These are touted as indoor soccer and badminton shoes.

These are the Star 360 with Michelin rubber. Apparently they work together.

I prefer my soles to be pimples out, as against my rubbers being inverted

From my experiences, don't go butterfly. I once had a pair of blue lezoline lasers, yes, they look great, but they fell apart in a couple of weeks. The materials in the front started to come out, and just got worst and worst. Fortunately, I was given a refund, but still definitely not looking for BTY shoes again. I recommend mizunoes. They last a long time and have a great grip. Stiga and asics also have some good quality indoor shoes.

I remember reading somewhere way back about making sure the shoes were designed to withstand lateral movement. At the time I wasn't entirely sure what this was ( I had a theoretical knowledge as it said "lateral), so I did some research. This is what I found.....

Badminton and general indoor court shoes were not always suitable as these were more aimed longitudinal movement and support (think lunging).
Indoor Soccer style faired better, but again did not provide as much lateral support as I needed (due to fallen arches)
HANDBALL or Indoor volleyball, now these were the sports I was looking for as it contained a lot of Longitudinal AND lateral movement, so off in search I went........ I found LOADS at the time.

I settled on a pair of Asics Gel-blast 5 back in august 2014 and other than a bit of dirt from dust, they are still in very good condition over 3 years on !!! I'm pretty sure that this particular model is no longer available, but I am sure that Asics have something new :)

Try these links....

Just had a thought. What about rock climbing shoes? Apparently you can buy different "rubbers" to apply to the soles (as if rubber for your racket weren't enough... ). Probably cost a fortune, though.

I can recommend Joola TT shoes for ppl with narrow feet. Asics, Mizuno shoes are good stuff.

Handball and volleyball and even womens shoes are all good to prevent ankle rollovers.

My number one choice is Hi-Tec Squash footwear for table tennis. I find they offer good grip and are very light and comfortable. They are very durable too :)

Quite a few years ago a friend who plays squash recommended ASICS Gel Rocket 7 to me. They were excellent but when they wore out I couldn’t find them again and bought a pair of Stiga Instinct II which I’m still wearing. Quite like them but preferred the ASICS.

Reporting back...Mizunos are very nice, and I would never know the difference, but I've been using the Kelme shoes more often.

I wanted to mention that they are very durable as they have taken a beating...going on 5 months. I'm bad with my shoes and don't take them off when I leave the club, sometimes running errands in them because I'm too lazy to change.

These have withstood everything and if the price point stays the same (35-45 dollars) I will likely continue buying them. And I love the crazy colors they come in, common in TT, Badminton, and Indoor soccer.

These look quite cool - one thing I like about them and Asics volleyball shoes is that their sole is made of two different types of rubber (yellow and gray on my Asics). I suspect it helps when playing on concrete, wood etc., not that many clubs with Gerflor around here...
