If I were looking to increase the speed of a rubber a little, which would have the greater or lesser effect. Increase the thickness of the same rubber or keep the thickness but go the next level in hardness.

Example: If I wanted a bit extra speed on loops and was currently using Donic Acuda S2 in 2.0mm. Would I be better in going with S1 in 2mm or S2 in max?

Faster blade also an option but not for this discussion.

This depends on your technique and how hard you hit.

If you hit hard, a harder rubber will be better because the maximum spin and speed you can generate is more. For slower shots your timing and technique has to be really good. Otherwise balls will go to the net.

If you don't have a hard stroke and your timing is not always perfect (for example with less than perfect footwork) you should go for a softer rubber, for example stay at your rubber and increase thickness.

I would probably increase the thickness first. If you then max it out and need more power, go for the harder rubber.

If you are happy with the current feel go max. Otherwise, go to a harder sponge - feel may completely change though.

I'd go for the max. It will let you spin the ball harder, which will also allow you to increase the speed without missing the table. Hard would help but I think max would come first. This assumes you're looping, of course.
