probably a number of reasons,
Bad batch, old stock, usually red is not as tacky as the black.

But i dont remember the elite to be tacky? Its probably More grippy than tacky.

Yes the current 999 Elite is only mild tacky, I'm not sure either how they compare to earlier version...

They may have changed it to make it play more like a euro-type rubber. It is a very spinny rubber for loops though.

They still have a JUIC Globe 999 (is that the name?) which I assume is much tackier....

If you are still concern of the loss of tack you can apply spinmax on to the topsheet of the 999 elite.

Which in turn would make it as illegal as if I applied glue to the tip of my pips. Stop helping the inverted players with tips like this!

Actually, according to ITTF rules, anything applied to the rubber that changes its characteristics is illegal. That would rule out Spinmax I suppose. Not sure about the veggie oil treatment as it doesn't increase the tackiness, rather brings it back.

Let's not get into the the spinmax/oil treatment legality debacle again :!: It's a can of worms that you want to keep closed. Before you know it, we'll all be :argue:, which may result to :boxing:, when we should be :occasion5: instead!

But seriously, everyone has a standpoint on the subject, it seems, except the ITTF, which is the one single authority that should say anything about legality...

there is still alot of products that is available to us, deemed illegal. Unless we play in high level tournaments, I guess we can get away with it. How would anyone know??? Thats from a social point of view....

For an example i will still stick my rubbers on with the voc glue. Why? Because i have alot of it lying around, i will put it on for putting on rubbers but i would not glue it before playing a match.

Here in Oz, i dont think the rules are enforced. I think the main basis of this is that not everyone playing tt is well informed of whats going on internationally....

Well just last week i spoke to a guy that I played against in a competition, (highest division here in Sydney). I saw him purchase some tibhar tuner. I did tell him why? Since i read that on the internet it would most probably be banned. He pretty much gave me hell on "what the f$#k" i know! And pretty much told me that the long pips i use is banned???

So go figure?

Btw i was refering too the water based spin max.

Yes spinmax should be fine as long as you don't overuse it to make it much stickier than the rubber is supposed to be.... if you use in moderation it pretty much restores it's initial stickiness... nothing wrong with that IMO

The sponge thing is just different interpretations of the rule.

I guess we'll have to wait for proper clarification...
