Curious if there is much difference between Viscaria and Timo Boll ALC? Looking at the Butterfly website and the blade comparison shows them as identical.
Why choose one over the other?

Viscaria: - maybe moe popular
‘Viscaria’ had been announced in late 1993 as the new fiber blade of model year 1994, and started to be sold on 21th November 1993. ‘Viscaria’ is a very important blade in the history of table tennis blade because it is the first blade for which composite material is used.

Blade: Trinity Carbon

BH: Dr N Troublemaker OX
They're very similar, and I'm pretty sure the Timo Boll ALC was based on the Viscaria but they needed to make a 'name' blade for Timo Boll. New blades boost sales, so any small changes, even if they're only cosmetic, and giving it a new name is good for their business. I don't agree with the conclusion of the website above, they're far too similar to make such a distinction.

Price, maybe?

Perhaps there is a difference in shape? Or size? Handle shape? Or personal preference?

(Someone should move this thread to where it belongs.. )

Blade: Matador
FH: Dignics09C
BH: Scandal
The Viscaria is a little cheaper than Boll Alc. The Boll Alc is a little bit faster and stiffer. But as for the rest, they are pretty similar (expect design and the wingspan).
