Remember some years back when we first started seeing talk about different colored rubbers, Tuttle started selling something called Octopus? This was even before ITTF passed the regulations allowing for rubbers other than red and black. I bought a sheet of the yellow Octopus. Nothing remarkable about it, just another Chinese inverted sheet, though IIRC it wasn't very tacky. It's still available on AliExpress:

(I'm pretty sure some of those colors are NOT the ones approved by ITTF, particularly the yellow.)

I'd always assumed that this was yet another non-ITTF approved rubber - plenty of those in China, after all. But then I noticed this:

Huh?? Prevention Arc??? It doesn't actually say "Octopus" anywhere. Prevention Arc would be a weird name for inverted sandwich rubber. Indeed - when I looked it up in the LARC, Tuttle Prevention Arc (96-010) is listed! But what's this? It's Anti???? And only available in Red and Black???

Almost the exact same headstamp. What gives? The sheet I had (Do I still have it? Does it also say "Prevention Arc"?) was DEFINITELY not Anti.

This is what I think happened. Tuttle (or someone) decided to produce a line of non-ITTF rubbers before ITTF actually passed the regulations, and they dusted off the old Prevention Arc molds (the pre-ITTF code ones) to make it rather than make new molds. And since there's a picture of an octopus on the headstamp they called it Tuttle Octopus.

Incidentally - there's a Tuttle A380 Sky..

And now they're selling other rubber in other colors, Tuttle Positive Energy (96-012):

Tuttle President (96-019) is also supposedly available in different colors but all the ads just show black and red so far.

Wow, so they used the same molds to first create a grippy inverted, then an antispin? Amazing what you can do when you don't worry about ITTF approval.

I think the Anti (Prevention Arc) came first. They then re-used the old molds (they didn't include the ITTF number in the headstamp, the new ones do) to make Tuttle Octopus.

As a matter of fact, you can still buy the real Prevention Arc:

Note the slight difference in the headstamp.

Hmmm.. USD11.41 for a sheet, free shipping. Never had a sheet of Anti before... Maybe I'll check to see if it's on Shopee.
