Tried the 729-8 in black last week for about 15 minutes (not tuned or speedglued) on a T2.

The feeling was very good, pretty bouncy for a chinese rubber. But that was all for me, less spin, less speed than Tenergy 05. The topsheet wasn't tacky at all, I thought it was supposed to be mildly tacky. I guess the rubber would perform better spinwise if I had put it on one of my Avalox blades, maybe I'll try this next week. Also I must admit that I've become so used to Tenergy that it's hard for me to get decent spin out of anything else, which may have to do with my stroke being finetuned to the Tenergy right now.
In terms of performance/price, I think the 729-8 is a very good rubber, but I would prefer Focus 2 for a euroloop game, since it seems to be easier to get spin on medium powered strokes.

Thanks XenoNL!

We've just got those in as well, so I'll check the tackiness and sponge hardness on mine. I also thought they were meant to be tacky...

Hmm, mine is certainly tacky. It still picks up a ball and keeps it for around 1-2 secs before dropping off.

The 729-8 I have is tacky, but quite slow. I don't understand how anyone can think the speed compares to 729-5. It may be spinnier but no way is it faster. IMO it feels just like regular old 729. I know a 2200 US player who uses it with a lot of tuner and it's great (as expected). I don't believe Friendship ever would have produced it had they not intended to market it with tuner. The placebo effect is amazing. WAKE UP PEOPLE, IT'S JUST ANOTHER TACKY,SLOW, HARD RUBBER!!!

EDIT: Do not take this post too seriously.

Yep, slower but spinnier than 729-05. Designed for a tuner definitely.

Yep definitely agree on that tacky slow hard rubber, bought it because a friend recommended me, and tried it out feeling meh, as my last blade had the rakza 7 combo plus xiom vega pro, which is way way better.

Hah... you want a fast 729? Try the 729FX Super with the big pore sponge. Way too fast in my opinion, faster than any of the Tensors I've tried. Hard to control in the short game.

Since it has the same topsheet as the regular 729FX, I imagine it should last a while. I had it on a bat, played with it for a while, took it off, some months later put it back on, played with it until I realized how much faster it was than the H3 I had on the other side (which was supposed to be the forehand side). Had problems with long pushes and popped-up pushes, so I took it off and replaced it with a second sheet of H3. Still in good playing condition, I recall Seamooning it at least once the first time I had it on. You don't notice the high speed when looping or driving, but you do when pushing.

There's another 729FX with weird sponge being sold by Eacheng also - this one has black sponge.

It's available in 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0mm sponge. Expensive ($12) so it's got to be good... (FX with LPS is available in 2.2, 2.0, 1.8, 1.5 and 1.0 - a rarity in Chinese rubber.)

Black sponge isn't uncommon. Some sheets I've come across with black sponge include KTL Gold Star (I don't recommend it.. ), Yinhe Apollo III (quite good), and some old, now rare "training" sheets of Haifu Whale.

Perhaps start a new topic on this, as you'll probably get more answers since this thread is about 729-08 reviews ;)

Ah...

viewtopic.php?f=44&t=25211

To summarize - with one or two exceptions (Reactor Ckylin!) they're ALL good, more or less. The ones that aren't have to do with weight or with QC (mainly dishing and delamination) rather than playing qualities. Weight is also very variable from sheet to sheet, and this is across a lot of brands.
